Chris Beetles will show through May 12 2006 Lesley Fotherby: The Traditional and Spontaneous Eye, from snow in the landscape to energy in dance. Lesley Fotherby is one of the best and most popular contemporary artists of traditional subjects. Her panoramas of the snow-swept Yorkshire Dales demonstrate her great sensitivity to the textures, moods and rhythms of life on the remote and changeable moors. Our exhibition will include a number of these recent landscapes as well as paintings of Cambridgeshire, Dorset and Suffolk.
The very best of the English landscape will be on show.
Additionally, as one of Britain's only figurative artists working directly from life, Fotherby has developed intimate relationships with both the Royal Academy of Dance and the National Youth Ballet.
Her paintings from the wings of Drury Lane capture the drama and grace of the ballet.
Fotherby's understanding of the physical form has also led her to be viewed as the most talented painter of feline subjects working in the UK. She is well known for her book Cats: Drawing and Painting in Watercolour, as well as Garden Painting: Drawing and Painting in Watercolour, both published in 1996 by Michael O'Mara Books.
The Chris Beetles Gallery has been exhibiting Fotherby's paintings for twenty years, and will be showing 100 of her finest works encompassing the entire range of her ability.
