"Art Of Digital Show: Juried by Hugh Davies"
2006-10-06 until 2006-11-19
Lyceum Theatre
San Diego, CA, USA United States of America

San Diego: The Art Of Digital Show is an international exhibition of digital art which will take place October 6 through November 19, 2006 at the elegant Lyceum Theatre Gallery, located in San Diegos historic Gaslamp Quarter. This venue is perfect for exhibiting a large showcase of world-class digital art. The website for the exhibit is www.artofdigitalshow.com. Hugh Davies, the Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, is the Judge for the Art of Digital Show.

The Art Of Digital Show will feature all forms of digital art -- digital painting, computer based illustration, digitally manipulated photography, digital video art, fractals and algorithmic imagery, digital manipulations of traditionally created art, digital montages and collages, computer animation, interactive video installations, CGI, etc.

Something very unique about The Art Of Digital Show is the combining of fine art images in the gallery along with video art. 16 flat-screen displays in the gallery will be continuously exhibiting the video art pieces which were selected by Hugh Davies.

Mission: The manner in which the organizers are producing this exhibition -- the promotion of the artists, the production and printing of the Show Catalog, the preparation of the opening reception, the $3,500 in prize awards, the marketing and advertising strategy, the sales efforts for the art -- are all being pursued with intense passion and tenacity. The goal is to provide as many tangible benefits as possible for the artists, a truly artist oriented show. The other key aim of the organizers is to provide San Diegans with a unique and truly world-class presentation of digital art. According to the Curator, Steven Churchill, Our great love of this art form, and being digital artists ourselves, prompts us to pull out all of the stops in order to showcase a truly excellent presentation of digital art from around the world, to elevate and promote this art form, and to provide substantial benefits to the exhibiting artists through the significant exposure the Show will provide and through the sales revenue we will achieve for the artists.

The Lyceum Theatre Gallery is open (free to the public) seven days a week. Gallery hours are 10 am to 5 pm M-F, and Noon to 5pm on the weekends.

Steven Churchill has been exhibiting the work of digital artists since 1986, when he produced the worlds first computer animation film festival, screened to capacity attendances at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla, California. In 1988 Steven released the worlds first computer animation video, entitled State of the Art of Computer Animation, which the American Film Institute gave their Best Video Art award that year. In 1990 Steven produced The Minds Eye video, and followed that up with Beyond The Minds Eye, The Gate To The Minds Eye, and Odyssey Into The Minds Eye, selling over 2 million units to date. In 2004 Steven curated and produced the Art of Photography Show, which was exhibited at the La Jolla Art Association Gallery in November of that year. Following that exhibition, Steven curated and produced the Art of Photography Show 2006, an international exhibition of photographic art which took place April 20 - June 4, 2006 at the Lyceum Theatre Gallery in Horton Plaza. Arthur Ollman, the Director of the Museum Of Photographic Arts, was the Judge for that exhibition. There were about 1000 people at the opening reception gala on April 22nd, and over 18 pieces of art were sold at the show. The response from the staff at the Lyceum Theatre Gallery has been great as well, with comments that its the Best art show thats ever been here, Theres been more foot traffic than any previous art show here, and Youve sold more art here than any other exhibit in our 20 year history.

Stevens goal through all of these exhibitions and visual art projects is to showcase the very best work in each medium, to bring much exposure and attention to the artists work, and to provide many tangible benefits to the exhibiting artists. The experience and knowledge gained by 20 years of exhibiting digital art is being applied with intensity and excellence towards this current exhibition, The Art Of Digital Show.
