"Paintings by Jerry Ross Featured in Group Exhibition"

Jerry Ross, an established and well-known painter in Oregon, is having
an important sale that includes many works created years ago, some
dating back to 1989. Ross is a very prolific artist completing ten or
twenty large old master studies per year as a way of self-study and
practice. Very much like a musician practices scales, Ross sketches out
large compositions after Ribera, Rubens, Caravaggio, Veronese, etc. and
then sets them aside. They accumulate as do his many portrait sketches
and compositions, some for practice and others intended for sale. Jerry Ross has been a Premiere Portfolio Artist at absolutearts.com since 2000.
Opus6ix has gathered up twenty or so of these works from Ross' attic for
sale in a giant "blow art out the door" sale intended to get these works
out of the attic and into people's homes. The prices have been
deliberately set low to encourage sales. Over the years people have
complained to Gallery owners that they would like to purchase a painting
by Jerry Ross if only they could afford one. Now the gallery has made
this possible with lower prices and a variety of canvases to choose
from. On the opening night six landscapes sold right away.
"Departure", a large 5 x 7 foot figurative work by Ross, greets the
visitor as they enter the Gallery. It depicts an imagined scene from
Italian history when the army of Garibaldi was on the docks of Genova
about to leave for battle in South Italy. The painting is both realistic
and abstract with bright red and yellow areas pushing and pulling the
spectator. Two other notable portraits in the show are "Dr. Panova
after Oreshnikov" , a portrait of a Russian WWII surgeon, and " La
Studentessa", a portrait of an Italian student.
Jerry Ross' work has been placed in a room with an assortment of work by
other Opus6ix artists.
