Kolkata, WB, IN India

Aakriti Art Gallery in Calcutta presents two new exhibitions during the first half of May 2007 - "Glimpses of Modern Sculptures of Bengal" and "Landscape in Modern Paintings". Both of these group shows reflect the heritage of art in India through contemporary works. Aakriti Art Gallery exhibits a range of works by artists who are groundbreaking contemporary visionaries, young upcoming talents or historical masters and promotes these artists with a Gallery Portfolio at absolutearts.com.

Sculpting in India has a long history. Nearly 5000 years ago the Harappan artists have created wonderful sculptures. Since then this glorious tradition was flowing continuously, except some interruption, enriching the art of sculpture. In recent times the language of contemporary sculptures has become a bit difficult in terms of expression. Apart from stone, wood, bronze used in traditional sculpture, a variety of new materials are also employed now a days. These works are most significant and unique in their own respect. So an attempt would be made to showcase some of such excellent works with an expectation that the viewers can get an idea about the trend and tendencies of present plastic art.

Sculptors expected to participate in "Glimpses of Modern Sculptures of Bengal" are: Aku, Anil Sen, Anit Ghosh, Bimal Kundu, Biman Behari Das, Bipin Goswami, Debabrata Chakraborty, Dilip Saha, Gopal Prasad Mandal, Gopinath Roy, Janak Jhankar Narjari, Madhav Bhattacharjee, Manick Talukdar, Niranjan Pradhan, Pankaj Pawar, Raghunath Singha, Ramkumar Manna, Sandip Chakraborty, Sarbari Roy Chowdhury, Shankar Ghosh, Shyamal Roy, Somnath Hore, Subhas Roy, Sunanda Das, Sunil Kumar Das, Sunil Paul, Surajit Das, Sushen Ghosh, Sutanu Chatterjee, Tapan Kumar Das, Tapas Sarkar, Tarak Garai and Uma Siddhanta

In Indian traditional paintings nature was mostly represented as a backdrop of the central theme. But with the passage of time, nature has gradually came to occupy a position of prime importance in the delineation of the contemporary art works. Many artists got inclined to portraying full fledged landscapes besides their figurative paintings. We would try to present some of such unique specimens in our forthcoming exhibition, where spectators can enjoy the diverse charming beauties of ever moving nature.

Artists expected to participate in "Landscape in Modern Paintings" are : Anita Roychowdhury, B.R.Panesar, Binodbehari Mukherjee, Biraj Paul, Deviprasad Roy Chowdhury, Gopal Ghosh, Indra Dugar, Jamini Roy, Jayanta Chakraborthy, Malay Chandan Saha, Manu Parekh, Paramjit Singh, Paresh Maity, Purna Chakraborthy, Ram Kumar, Ramlal Dhar, Shukti Shubra Pradhan, Shyamashree Bose, Sohini Dhar and Subrata Sen.
