RU Russian Federation
From October 31, 2007 until January 15, 2007 The State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg will host a solo exhibition of works by the Israeli artist Ilana Raviv. Slated to include forty-seven paintings in the six galleries, the exhibition will display works from different periods of Raviv's oeuvre. A first of its kind for any native-born Israeli artist at such a prestigious Russian institution, the exhibition is poised to further strengthen cultural ties between Israel and Russia, and represents an important milestone for international recognition of Israeli aritsts in general, and Israeli female artists in particular. Ilana Raviv has been a Premiere Portfolio member at absolutearts.com since 2000.
Between 1980-84 she studied at the Art Students League, New York under Roberto Delamonicа, Bruce Dorfman and Knox Martin. Later Ilana Raviv returned to her homeland. Nowadays she works at the Neve Tzedeck studio, Tel Aviv.
The works by Ilana Raviv from private collections and museums of the United States, Europe and Israel has been exhibited at over 70 exhibitions. Ilana Raviv terms her art as 'synthetic real-ism' and does not associate it with any stream, style, tendency, period or school in art.
The exhibition in the Russian Museum is the Israeli artist's first personal show in Russia, where the viewers may consider her works comparable to such tragic and expressive works by the 'amazons of the Russian avant-garde' as apocalyptic images by Natalia Goncharova and the Cards cycle by Olga Rozanova.
