"Berco Wilsenac: In die sterre geskryf"
2008-01-08 until 2008-02-02
Bell-Roberts Art Gallery
Cape Town, ,
ZA South Africa
Bell-Roberts in Cape Town presents works by Berco Wilsenac in "In die sterre geskryf" (Written in the Stars) from January 9 to February 2, 2008. Berco Wilsenach explores the inaccessabality of language as an effective medium of communication. In this, his latest solo exhibition he compares the similarity between the medium of braille with star charts. Wilsenach draws parallels between the apparently chaotic placing of dots on star charts and the strict patterns of braille.
The concept of the blind astronomer suggests a double irony where, although a measure of information is provided; he does not have access to the visual embodiment of the information. The sighted observor, on the other hand, does not have access to the information required to unlock the visual image. Both therefore remain in the dark. Wilsenach is the winner of the prestigious ABSA l'Atelier Award 2005.
