"Small Takes: Zeuxis"
2008-03-04 until 2008-03-29
First Street Gallery
New York, NY,
USA United States of America
First Street Gallery is pleased to host Small Takes, an exhibition of work by the still life painters comprising the group Zeuxis. The theme of the exhibition is smallness; often vast dimensions arenít sufficient to make a painting feel large, while a diminutive scale can sometimes feel monumental. The 27 artists of Zeuxis pursue a variety of personal styles, but for Small Takes each has produced one small painting with especially intimate dimensions. The group Zeuxis has organized numerous exhibitions of still life paintings in galleries and museums across the United States since 1994. Previous Zeuxis exhibitions have included paintings by such renowned guest artists as Wayne Thiebaud, Nell Blaine, Paul Resika, and Gabriel Laderman. Exhibitions have been favorably mentioned in many publications including The New York Times, The New York Sun, The New York Observer, and Art New England. The First Street Gallery promotes their artists with a Gallery Portfolio at absolutearts.com.
The artists of Zeuxis are Lucy Barber, William Barnes, Suzanne Biggins, Joseph Byrne, Susan Cohen, Catherine Drabkin, Bevin Engman, Nancy Flanagan, Phyllis Floyd, Stanley Friedman, John Goodrich, Robert Jessel, Tim Kennedy, Deborah Kirklin, Carmela Kolman, Lynn Kotula, Ben Frank Moss, Richard La Presti, Ying Li, Sydney Licht, Eve Mansdorf, Anthony Martino, Margaret McCann, Ruth Miller, Stacy Mohammed, Victor Pesce, and Megan Williamson.
