"Marcello's Art Factory" in The Hague, Netherlands is currently hosting a project entitled "Urban Ready Mades" which comes from the concept of "ready mades" made famous by artist Marcel Duchamp who was the first to introduce this oevre . Duchamp shook the established art scene and it's foundations by assembling a bike wheel on a bar stool and presenting this as art. Four years later he did it again by signing a urnal "Fountain" under the alias R. Mutt and sending this to an art show as an artwork. In December 2004, Duchamp's "Fountain" was voted the most influential artwork of the 20th century by 500 selected British art world professionals. This concept was successfully adapted by such later artists as Andy Warhol with his "Brillo Box" and "Campbell's Soup Cans".
The Urban Ready Mades or URM project's approach core is similar but leaning more towards the urban scene (street, object, view, event). A URM is something in an urban environment that isn't originally meant to be art but could be. The project is looking for photos of URMs from different artists and places around the world. They already have some additions on their www.urbanreadymades.com website which is momentarily functional yet under construction but shortly will be getting a huge make-over so we are more than open to new additions.
Therefore they would like to invite you and possibly your artist colleagues (photographers, architects, painters and anyone who feels an artist at heart really) to whom you may want to mention this, to take part in this interesting project. The goal is to have as many captivating artists as possible participating in this project from all over the world and have an engaging virtual world gallery of "Urban Ready Mades" by the end of the summer of 2008.
