The Annex Art Space in Ester opened its next show on July 4, 2008. The show is entitled The Enchanted Forest and presents over 60 works of art: Photography, fantasies, ink jet prints, oil paintings, metal and wood sculpture, all created by longtime time artist and resident of Fairbanks, Alaska, Don W Murphy. The time span of creating the art work is 40 years. Many of these works were created from Mr. Murphys wilderness in Alaska. The main problem, he states, was not in filling a large room with art, but in selecting works from many thousand images I have collected over the years, plus paintings and sculpture. I have gigabytes on my hard drives and over 10,000 35mm film color slides. Don Murphy has been a Premiere Portfolio Artist at absolutearts.com since 2005.
I find that the best of my creations are the ones which show emotion. Otherwise the work is just another picture. So, many of my pictures are constructions put together in layers using Photoshop
from the many thousand images in my computers. This way fantasies and whole different worlds can be made, or just the feelings of a person.>
The first award I received was in 1955, when two of my photographs were accepted for the National News Pictures of the Year Exhibition then sponsored by the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
It wasnt until I moved to Alaska in 1968 that I produced art seriously. Since 1968 I have done a variety of works which have been shown in the A Lifetime of Art gallery in 2004 as painting, sculpture, photography, and computer art. This exhibit contained excerpts from my work over the last 50 years, culminating in the photography and computer art and fantasy I recently have been inventing. In 2005 I was awarded a Premier Portfolio on absolutearts.com (a href=http://absolutearts.com/donwmurphy>absolutearts.com/donwmurphy) which now is bulging with over 750 works.
