The Nordic Museum of Drawing in Laholm from July 5 until August 31, 2008 presents Sol Kjok - "Book of Swells". Sol Kjok was born in 1968 in Lillehammer, Norway. She currently resides and works in New York. Sol Kjok works on designs based on the human body which has been subjected to physical challenges, such as climbing rope, dribbling a ball, posed on the ropes or balls in her studio. The movements are documented with the camera. Sol Kjok develops the works by cutting out these figures from photos and compiling them into collages. Sol Kjok has been a Premiere Portfolio Artist at absolutearts.com since 2002.
Finally, turning collages to drawings and paintings, in which the visual end of a very long process can be seen. Sol Kjøk winds human body images into each other, tangled up or overlapped. In the distance flowing lines bind together the forms into a complex "människoform". In the black and white images, sometimes a red ball or red braid is incorporated. The latter weave together the bodies, which are neither expressed as feminine or masculine. The ball closes the circle back to the original natural experiences in the studio. Sol Kjøk wants to get the audience to experience the feeling of how their own bodies might feel, slowly slipping through the air.
Sol Kjøk has participated in separate and group exhibitions in the United States, Canada, Colombia, Norway, France and Germany. Her works are in private and public collections in the United States, Colombia, Norway, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria and England.)
