Artist jeweller Angela Tolken, also known under her trade name AnGela(R), presents her latest work in her third solo exhibition entitled Self at the Art Gallery of the University of Stellenbosch. As usual, the jewellery on show is hand crafted to immaculate perfection and every work is a once-off piece of wearable art created laboriously over the duration of several weeks.

Angela’s work subtly deals with memory, experience and self-consciousness without losing its strong aesthetic and formal appeal. Her pieces are evocative, distinctly feminine and reveal an express interest in the enormous formal and technical potential of metal. Angela uses the here and now to recollect and interpret past moments, creating something new from something old with an inevitable reference to her African context. The resulting jewellery on show is accessible and user friendly despite its philosophical connotations and every discerning individual with an eye for exquisite beauty and appreciation for fine detail will be thrilled!
