Chicago (December 2010) - Nourishment returns to
contemporary art in more ways than one in the upcoming solo exhibition The
Construction of National Identity by Stephen Lapthisophon at the Hyde Park
Art Center from January 30 until May 22, 2011. The recent work by Lapthisophon
addresses issues of place, identity, and history through the acts of the hand,
including drawing, writing and preparing
food.

Chicago (December 2010) - The Hyde Park Art Center
presents Police and Thieves, a provocative group exhibition
guest-curated by artists Karla Diaz and Mario Ybarra Jr., and on view from
February 13 until May 29, 2011. The exhibition features a variety of work by
contemporary artists, including Gusmano Cesaretti, Megan Cranston, Los Angeles
Poverty Department Collective, Amitis Motevalli, Ray CRO Noland, Ben Stone and
Arnoldo Vargas. Police and Thieves brings together current artistic
production in Los Angels and Chicago that deal with the historical and
inherently conflicting relationship of power between those who enforce the laws
and those who break
them.

Chicago (December 2010) - What does Nothing look and feel
like? Artist Conrad Freiburg invites the public to experience the possibilities
of the Void in his exhibition It Is What It Isn't, on view at the Hyde
Park Art Center from March 20 through June 26, 2011. The interactive sculptural
installation in the Art Center's main gallery will include a large-scale wooden
drawing machine, a hand-crafted telescope, musical instruments and a
"destruction station." It Is What It Isn't will also utilize
the Art Center's garage door feature on the facade to allow passers-by a chance
to view and enter the main gallery directly from the
sidewalk.
