CAPRICCIO FOUNDATION FOR MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART
222 Shelby Street
Santa Fe, New Mexico
505-982-8889

April 1st heralds the beginning of a new educational arts foundation named Capriccio Foundation for Modern and Contemporary Art (“Capriccio Foundation”).

Saturday March 31st, 2012, marked the last day of operation for the former 222 Shelby Street Gallery and 333 Montezuma Annex.  The 222 Shelby Street Gallery and the 333 Montezuma Annex have become exhibition spaces for the Capriccio Foundation.  The former galleries went out with a bang … a fantastic two-day event and exhibition entitled “the Art of Systems Biology and Nanoscience”.  It is also fitting that Capriccio Foundation launches with the new energy from a big bang event and exhibition.

As to how to describe Capriccio Foundation, perhaps the best explanation comes from Janet Oliver, PhD, one of the two chief organizers for “The Art of Systems Biology and Nanoscience” exhibition.  Oliver is a scientist and educator.  As she looked around at the exhibition and the wonderfully diverse crowd attending “The Art of Systems Biology and Nanoscience,” she remarked, “I understand you are going to go in a new direction. Congratulations, that means that you can do this full time.”

Capriccio Foundation is a private operating foundation that will apply with the IRS for recognition of Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.  Its goal is to advance the education of the general public regarding modern and contemporary arts, with a special interest in crossing over between categories and disciplines. The goal of Capriccio Foundation is to contribute to the unique tradition of arts and culture in Santa Fe by conducting artistic and cultural activities designed to further this educational goal, including: exhibitions, public programming, lectures, workshops and more.
