Ninth Annual Breakfast in the Park at the Frost Art Museum Provides Exciting Conclusion to Art Basel Miami Beach Festivities

MIAMI, FL (November 19, 2012)- The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University celebrates Art Basel Miami Beach with its ninth annual Breakfast in the Park, on Sunday, December 9, 2012, from 9:30 am to noon. Guests will enjoy a complimentary outdoor breakfast, relax and sip Mimosas on the terrace, hear a stimulating talk by our featured sculptor and take guided tours of The Sculpture Park, as well as the exhibitions in the Museum. Breakfast in the Park is open to the public and free of charge.

Albert Paley, Clay Center Model, 2009, Mild Steel, 144” x 72” x 87”, Paley Studios, Ltd. Archive

This year’s featured sculptor is Albert Paley. Infused with the rhythmic fluidity of Art Nouveau, his sculptures have been called mysterious, seductive and spirited. They are technologically ingenious and emotionally demanding. He is the first metal sculptor to receive the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Institute of Architects, the AIA’s highest award to a non-architect. Paley, a Distinguished Professor, holds the Charlotte Fredericks Mowris Endowed Chair at the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York, and is the recipient of three Honorary Doctorates in Fine Art. Broadly published and an international lecturer, Paley received both his BFA and MFA from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. Commissioned by both public and private corporations, he has completed more than 60 site-specific works. His work can be found in the permanent collections of over 30 museums, nationally and internationally, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Toledo Museum of Art, and the Victoria and Albert Museum and The British Museum, both in London. Several of his works are on display currently at the Frost Art Museum, including Clay Center Model, in the foyer of the Museum, and Portal, which is part of the American Sculpture in the Tropics exhibition outside the Museum in The Sculpture Park.

In addition to American Sculpture in the Tropics, Breakfast in the Park guests are invited to view the Museum’s other current exhibitions:

to beauty: A Tribute to Mike Kelley

Mark Messersmith: Fragile Nature

Iván Navarro: Fluorescent Light Sculptures

Material and Meaning: Earthenware, Stoneware and Porcelain from The Wolfsonian-FIU Collection

Reflections Across Time: Seminole Portraits

Breakfast in the Park is held the final day of Art Basel Miami Beach. County buses will offer free transportation for Art Basel patrons and the general public, leaving from the Miami Beach Convention Center. Breakfast in the Park receives support from Kelley Roy Gallery, Martini, MACBA | Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Buenos Aires and Wells Fargo Advisors.
