This week, during the 7th Annual Latin American Cultural Week, we invite you to see  “SOTO UNEARTHED: A 1968 Film and Selected Early Works”, works by the internationally acclaimed artist, Jesus Rafael Soto. This exhibition showcases, "Soto", an extremely rare film recently discovered in the Italian film archive, Cineteca Nazionale, as well as five other select works created between 1968-1971. These works have not been on public display for over 40 years and are definitive examples of Soto's connection to sound, space, music and movement.

Soto is recognized as one of the most important and influential Latin American artists of the 20th century and is widely regarded as a defining figure of the Kinetic and Op art movements. On November 10th, a packed audience gathered at BOSI Contemporary to listen to
an international panel of art historians and experts on Latin American art comment on the significance of the film "Soto" and the relevance of Jesus Rafael Soto's work. Participating panelists included:

Mr. Sean Nesselrode, Ph.D. candidate, Institute of Fine Arts, New York University
Mrs. Alma Ruiz, Senior Curator, MoCA LA
Mr. Ariel Jimenez, Art historian, independent curator and advisor for the Ignacio and Luis Alfonso Oberto Collection in Caracas. Author of "Jesús Soto in Conversation with Ariel Jiménez"

Ms. Agnes Berecz, Writer and Professor of modern and contemporary art history at the School of Graduate Studies of The Fashion Institute of Technology and MoMA.

"The panel organized by Bosi Contemporary was both informative and engaging. It was a privilege to participate in a conversation with such renowned scholars and a pleasure to discuss Soto's work at length. Whether the members of the audience were familiar with Soto's work or learning about him for the first time, the film and exhibition provided us all with many new insights into Soto's theories and practice, which continue to be relevant today." - Sean Nesselrode

In this video clip from the November 10th panel discussion,  Ariel Jimenez discusses the relationship between Soto's painting and his sculpture.
