HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Pleased note the new issue of THE NEW YORKER Jan. 7th, 2013 Issue Galleries-Uptown
"THE DIRECTOR'S CUT" The director in the title is Kraige Block, who has been in charge of the gallery's photography exhibitions for fifteen years. His selection isn't surprising, but it is satisfying, with classic images by Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Tina Modotti, Edward Weston, and Graciela Iturbide, and supporting material by Mario Cravo Neto, Mario Algaze, and Martin Chambi, among others. Frida Kahlo makes a cameo appearance in two great pictures: Nickolas Muray's famous color portrait of the artist in a rose-red shawl, and Lola Álvarez Bravo's picture of her reclining self-consciously, reflected in a mirror installed over her bed.
