February Programs at Torrance Art Museum

Torrance Art Museum is pleased to announce our February programs for the Museum. 

The Torrance Art Museum is the premiere visual art space to view contemporary art in the South Bay. It is a program of the City of Torrance Cultural Services Division of the Community Services Department. The Cultural Services Division is responsible for City sponsored arts and culture initiatives held at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center and throughout the City.

Painting in LA Panel Discussion

On Saturday, February 9th, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, in conjunction with the Paradox Maintenance Technicians (PMT) Exhibition, Torrance Art Museum will host a lively panel discussion on the direction of painting in Los Angeles.  The panel will consist of: artists, writers, curators and gallery owners who are experts in the field of painting and have in depth knowledge of current painting trends in Los Angeles.  Panel: Kevin Appel, Catlin Moore,Max Presneill,Christopher Pate and Grant Vetter.

 

 

Proceeding the Panel Discussion on Saturday February 9th, you may enjoy the following programs:

 

1:00 PM to 2:00 PM  Artist Karen Cope will be doing a live sculpture demonstration using her “Drawing in Space” method of sculpting. 

 

2:00 pm to 3:00 PM Grant Vetter will Read and Discuss his 2012 book, The Architecture of Control: A Contribution to the Critique of the Science of Apparatuses. 

 

"Silver Tongues" Screening with Writer/Director Simon Arthur

On Friday, February 1st, from 6pm to 9pm.  Writer/director Simon Arthur expands his 2007 short film to feature length in this tale of two nomadic lovers (Lee Tergson and Enid Graham) who continually assume new identities while seducing and manipulating unsuspecting strangers.  When their lies begin collapsing in on one another, their fragile façade begins to crack.

 

Shot in upstate New York in December 2009, “Silver Tongues” premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival on January 23rd of 2011, and earned the festival’s Audience Sparky Award for Best Narrative Film.

The film is 87 minutes long.  After the screening the director Simon Arthur will be available for questions and discussion about the film.
