ARTFABRIK by Laura Wasilowski
|
The world of quilting has moved way beyond pretty patchwork bedcovers. Case in point: an exhibition of art quilts opening this Thursday, January 17th at the New England Quilt Museum. Created by 36 artists based in fourteen different countries on three continents, these vibrant works represent the very best in modern art.
The Masters II exhibition is the follow-up to the original Masters exhibition of works by members of SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates), including a touring collection and a companion book by guest curator and SAQA Executive Director Martha Sielman (Storrs, CT). Like the first, this exhibition includes a companion book featuring several works by each of the artists represented in the touring exhibition. The book is for sale in the NEQM Store.
An Opening Night Reception will be held from 5:30-7:30PM on Thursday, January 17th. On Saturday, January 19th, join us for a Curator's Reception from 1-3PM featuring a talk by exhibition special curator Martha Sielman.
Masters II runs through April 13, 2013.

NEQM SEEKS LIBRARY MANAGER
|
The museum has an extensive reference and circulating library available to members and the public. We are looking for a volunteer to take over from the current library manager, who is looking to cut back her involvement over time.
Previous library training and experience would be a plus but is not required. Quilting experience is necessary, however, since the librarian responds to questions from the public about quiltmaking, quilt care and history. Complete training will be provided. Candidates should live close enough to volunteer twice weekly and should be open to a long-term commitment.
For details, visit www.nequiltmuseum.org or email Questions@nequiltmuseum.org.

Thursday, January 24 VISIT YOUR LOCAL QUILT SHOP DAY
|
We all know how far quilting has come in the last couple of decades, with new tools, new techniques and new ideas coming out all the time.
No one does more to bring innovation to quilters than our wonderful local quilt shops.
That's why The Fabric Shop Network, a trade organization for independent quilt/fabric shops and design studios, has named January 24th "Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day."
A tough economy has hit many people hard, but let's show our local quilt shops how glad we are to have them in our neighborhoods!
