The Ottawa 2013 International Animation Festival is all set for
September 18-22nd. We’re already in full preparation mode.
Here’s some information to get you ready for what will surely be another
mind warping OIAF: |
|
Oscar-winning Australian animator, Adam Elliot, the claymation
mastermind behind the much loved films, Harvey Krumpet and OIAF
feature Grand Prix winner Mary and Max is confirmed for Ottawa
13. Alongside a retrospective of his films, Adam will head up a special
masterclass. Other confirmed screenings include tributes to Chicaco
animator, Chris Sullivan along with a look at Indigenous and Spanish
animation and a special presentation of the greatest student films ever
made… Stay tuned for more details. |
|
Our brand new poster is ready and it’s dreamy. It’s a new style called
Brookstonian. See, Brooklyn animator, Aaron Augenblick and Estonian dream
maker, Mati Kutt became pals during their OIAF 11 jury time. Now they’ve
teamed up on the OIAF 13 Poster and Signal Film. Here’s a sneak peak of
the soothing new poster:
|
|
We’re not quite ready for your cinematic mind dreams just yet, but it’s
a good time to start preparing your submissions to the OIAF 13
competition. Anyone can enter. Better yet, there’s NO ENTRY FEE! Can you
believe that? Doesn’t matter whether you’re a student, indie, or
non-indie. Whether you’re making narrative shorts, music videos,
commercials, video games, features, or non-figurative abstract mood
infestations, we’ve got categories for everyone!
Hell, you can even enter non-animation films. Lots of people do and we
love it! *
*non-animation films will not be accepted nor do we
‘love them’
When we're ready for you, the entry forms will be due
online by May 17th, and preview DVDs
by May 31st.
Stay tuned here and to our website for the official
call! |
|
While we’re talking about entries, here are the people who will be
judging your films should they qualify for the official competitions:
1. Fran Krause (U.S.A.), 2. Megan
Turnbull (Canada), 3. Michèle Lemieux (Canada),
4. Elliot Cowan (Australia/U.S.A.), 5. Carolina
López Caballero (Spain) and 6. Ged Haney
(Germany/UK).
Make nice with them now. |
|
If you have an idea for a panel or talk at the OIAF or TAC send them to
presentations@animationfestival.ca
by March 31, 2013.
You must submit:
1. Description 2. Possible speakers 3. Category of
programming: OIAF or TAC 4. Format: Panel, one-on-one discussion,
masterclass, etc. 5. If you’re interested in moderating, send your
bio
Tips for a good pitch:
* Be specific, focused panels and talks make for better
sessions. * Ideally, speakers are interested in getting involved
before you send us the topic. * Provide supporting material, i.e.
articles, videos/films, bios, etc. * Avoid blatant advertorial
content. We are seeking compelling discussions, not sales
pitches. |
|
Did you miss out on OIAF 12? Feeling left out and depressed because you
missed so many great films that all your pals are tweetingtwittingtexting
about? Fear not, we can help you make things right in the universe. The
Best of Ottawa 12 is now on tour. That’s right, you can see all the hip
stuff in one sweet ass little touring package. From Hisko Hulsing’s gritty
Grand Prix winner, Junkyard through the touching
I Am Tom Moody, the hilarious absurdist
classics, Gum, A Morning
Stroll and Una Furtiva Lagrima,
the Best of Ottawa 12 is packed with potent potions to ease your souls and
double-blow your minds.
for a full list of the films, official
trailer and screening dates so far! For more information, or to book a
