Lawrence Gallery Sheridan February enjoy nationally recognized print maker Jani Hoberg New collection of works inspired by France |
Recently returning from France, Jani Hoberg opens 2013 at Lawrence Gallery.
Since achieving an MFA in Printmaking at the University of Oregon artist Jani Hoberg has successfully created an astonishing variety of 2D art forms. Her dry point etchings, mono types, unique watercolors and mixed media paintings, have been shown and collected in equally far flung locations; Bulgaria, China, Los Angeles and all over the Northwest United States. Etching 32x34.5 in $850 |
Hoberg’s extensive resume reflects the rich creative life of this talented, hard working, and engaging fine artist. She states “This collection is from direct observation. I draw, paint, print what I see. I'm a pretty hopeless traditionalist … I learn each time about the basics....light & dark, thin & thick, negative & positive and when to stop.“ Etching 16x20 in $300 |

Her imagery, on the surface disarmingly charming aspects of this direct observation, belies decade's long involvement in finely crafted technical expression. Through means that are rich in tradition and artistic heritage, these works by Jani Hoberg are as intriguingly beautiful as they are varied. Print 20x19 in $400 |

Lawrence Gallery Salishan February enjoy Three Generations of Sculptors |
The Lawrence surname in the Northwest seems synonymous with the heavy tools and inspired vision of the sculptor’s art. It certainly is with the first show at Lawrence Gallery Salishan for 2013. Gary Lawrence, Brent Lawrence and Luke Lawrence share the family name, and possibly a similar choice in sculpture materials, but each sculptor translates the world with a unique perspective. Patriarch Gary Lawrence’s career spans 40 years. Fabricated Bronze 29x13x11 in $1200 |
Stainless steel and bronze wrought to reflect the natural world, often with tender humor, have been loved, collected and passed down through generations. Influential Brent Lawrence, of the second generation, breaks through art history’s time barrier morphing ancient animal icons with renditions of the wild and lovely of today. Fabricated Metals 36x72 in $4400 |
Ascendant sculptor of the third generation, Luke Lawrence, shows benefits from experience and techniques of the family heritage. However, these works are different still, using what is there and what isn’t … positive and negative space, in a voice all of his own. Three generations of sculpture…three trajectories, one family name. Enjoy this Northwest art history event that is on show now. Fabricated Metal 24x36x20 in $1800 |
