LIMIT(LESS) - A NEW EXHIBITION OPENING AT UICA
GRAND RAPIDS, MI, March 4, 2013 – Limit(less) the new spring exhibition at UICA opens March 8 and runs through May 5. The full facility exhibition is comprised of 13 artists, including three from Grand Rapids, Jason Rood, Collin Bradford and Danielle Wyckoff. There are over 30 works of art on exhibit, including 2 large-scale installations by Wyckoff.
Limit(less) is co-curated by Maureen Nollette and Miriam Slager members of UICA’s Curatorial Board. Nollete and Slager wanted to investigate the way we live with limits, limits on our movement, time, tolerance, resources, opportunities and space. How we function or deal with these limits depends on the individual. The results are limitless.
The opening reception for Limit(less) is on March 8 from 6-9pm. During the reception guests are invited to participate in a site-specific limitless Draw-In on the 4th floor (drawing skills not required). There will be live music, featuring The Kent County String Band and a cash bar.
In March the Limit(less) exhibition serves as a multidisciplinary platform for Grand Rapids Public School’s annual 7th Grade Field Trip to UICA. This year students will investigate specific works from the exhibition to learn about contemporary art in general and to make connections between these works and the GRPS 7th grade language arts curriculum. The Education Department at UICA expects to host over 1,000 7th grade students between March 12-29.
Particpating Artists: Alexandra Robinson, Joan Giroux, Steve Subnotnick, Danielle Wyckoff, Darryl Lauster, Megan Stroech, Jason Rood, Justin Barfield, Joomi Chung, James Collins, Barbara Smith, Bonnie Fortune, Collin Bradford.
Gallery hours are: Tuesday through Thursday 5pm to 9pm, Friday and Saturday 12pm to 9pm, and Sunday 12pm to 7pm.
