36th Annual Student Art Exhibition
on View at the Woodson Art Museum

WAUSAU, WISCONSIN: Colorful and imaginative artwork of 139 north central Wisconsin students in grades 5-8 is on view in the 36th annual Student Art Exhibition through March 30 at the Woodson Art Museum in Wausau. The geographical region covered reaches from Manitowish Waters to Wisconsin Rapids. Art teachers are encouraged to submit up to three student works for the exhibition and forty-three teachers did so from forty-nine area schools this year..

>From soothing, oil pastels to bold black-and-white drawings and vivid masks, the 2013 Student Art Exhibition offers a window into what students can imagine. For the students whose artwork is selected by their art teachers, this is a coveted opportunity for their creations to be displayed at the Woodson Art Museum in celebration of Youth Art Month.

"This is my first time I've ever had my artwork in a museum!" said Owen Beasley, a student at Wausau's Riverview Elementary. "To tell the truth I have always dreamed of having kids look up to my work. This might just be my favorite part of fifth grade!"
Wausau School District art teacher Mary Robinson said the exhibition "features the students' personal expression and communication and seems to satisfy their need for display. They are so proud when their work is selected!"
For the many other students who visit to see their fellow students' artwork, the exhibition highlights more than artistic achievement. "My elementary art students realize the many components and forms the visual arts take when they see the Student Art Exhibition each year," Robinson said. "In visual art, there are many right answers to a question. Students are taught creative and divergent thinking which supports all core subjects."
Below is a list of participating districts, schools, and art specialists.
