ICA: Institute of Contemporary Art
// THIS WEEK AT ICA
EXCURSUS IV: PRIMARY INFORMATION
This week sees the final two events in Primary Information's Excursus exhibition. Join us on the ICA Mezzanine for an evening of archival sounds and an afternoon of lively discussion.
Peruse archival material, reflect on past events, and follow the project at
excursus.icaphila.org.
MUSIC LESSONS
Wednesday, June 12, 6:30pm
After World War II children's music education became a site of aesthetic experimentation, and its traces
in videos and records continue to inspire today's musicians. Jesse Pires, Program Curator at
International House, and Ben Graves of Toys & Techniques will discuss why making bird sounds,
dancing under huge parachutes, and pretending to be a tree are all good things.
"VIDEO ART"
Saturday, June 15, 2pm
What was video art? Rebecca Cleman, Distribution Director at Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI), poses
this question in light of technological and cultural changes in the
decades since ICA's 1975 Video Art exhibition, and David Antin's influential catalog
essay about the then nascent medium. Participate in this final Excursus discussion,
along with a group of artists, curators, and scholars, to help us consider the legacy
of video art.
Participants include Homay King (Bryn Mawr College), Herb Schellenberger (International House), and Adelina Vlas (Philadelphia Museum of Art)..

MIRANDA // THE ICA BLOG
This week Miranda listens in as outgoing members of ICA's Student Board share memories: making buttons, wearing gingham shirts, and of course talking to artists.
Guest post by former Student Board member—and current ICA Spiegel Fellow—Grace Ambrose.
On a sunny morning in early May, the ICA's Student Advisory Board is munching on croissants and
chocolate babka and sipping cups of La Colombe coffee...
