KENOSHA,
WI – The Kenosha Public Museums were recently nominated for the
2014 National Medal for Museum Service, given by the Institute of
Museum and Library Services (IMLS). This is the nation's highest
honor conferred on museums and libraries for service to the
community.
In
early 2014, finalists will be announced. The public will then have an
opportunity to submit letters, feedback and stories of how the
museums impact the lives of their families and community.
The
National Medals for Museum and Library Service honor outstanding
American museums and libraries that have made extraordinary
contributions to their communities. Selected institutions demonstrate
exceptional and innovative approaches to public service, exceeding
the expected levels of community outreach. The winners are selected
by the Director of the IMLS in consultation with the National Museum
and Library Services Board. Winners are honored at a National Medal
award ceremony held in Washington, D.C.
The
IMLS is the primary source of federal support for the nation's 17,500
museums and 123,000 libraries. Their mission is to inspire libraries
and museums to advance innovation, lifelong learning, and cultural
and civic engagement. For more information about the IMLS, please
