SUNDAY SESSIONS:
New Directions with Traditional Materials
Join ACP Tutor Michael Waite who will discuss a range of contemporary artists who are making innovative and exciting work with traditional photographic darkroom materials such as film, paper and chemicals. Some of these artists work with ultra-large homemade cameras while others do camera-less photography. What seems to be a common link among them is that their ideas emerge from a practical understanding of the inherent expressive nature of these seemingly outmoded processes. Some of the artists to be discussed are John Chiara, Chris McCaw, Susan Derges and Michael Wesely.

WHAT MAISIE KNEW is a contemporary New York City revisioning of the Henry James novella by the same name, written by Carroll Cartwright and Nancy Doyne. It revolves around unwitting 7-year-old Maisie, caught in the middle of a custody battle between her mother Suzanna, an aging rock star, and her father, Beale, a major art dealer.
In a race to win the courtâs advantage, Beale marries Maisieâs nanny Margo, prompting Suzanna in turn to marry friend and local bartender, Lincoln. Both forced into a battle neither wishes to be a part of, Margo and Lincoln come to empathize with Maisieâs position and over time with one anotherâs. Teased by the notion of making their own surrogate family, the trio must either submit to the will of Maisieâs parents or eventually face their wrath.
Nixco are offering ACP readers the chance to win one of 10 double passes. Send your name and address to info@nixco.com.au with AUSTRALIAN CENTRE FOR PHOTOGRAPHY - WHAT MAISIE KNEW and answer the following question: What is the name of the 6 year old character in the film? In Cinemas August 22.
