  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Environmental Artist Apollo - "The beauty of our planet should be held in respect as well as reverence and awe! As the care takers of this precious jewel called Earth it is our duty to become more harmonious with our environment, for what we hold in our hands is a trust for future generations. What we do today, creates tomorrow." APOLLO Internationally Renowned Environmental Artist. Apollo is one of the World's Leading Environmental Artists. Apollo started painting dolphins and whales when He first moved to Maui in 1980. Since that time he has developed a Worldwide Following and has had the privilege to work with several Environmental Groups to raise both funding and awareness. ...

William Dick - STATEMENT My paintings record my interest in reconciling different and often estranged qualities and ideas in painting. I work through an experimental evaluation of the co-influence or confluence of organic and geometric, texture and structure, density and transparency, the sensuous history of paint and the austere tradition of minimalism. Within the context of abstraction, namely geometric and organic, I begin with the fundamental balance in painting between line and colour. I have drawn on ancient symbolic shapes from my Scottish background and I am influenced by the symbolic power of simplest forms of drawn lines such as the circles, concentric circles and spirals of Pictish and Celtic Art. Linear elements in my work derive from this source as well as from African and Aboriginal Art, Abyssinian Warrior Shields and Russian icons, and other lines and shapes that retain, in the broadest sense, some significance within culture. For colour I begin from observation of geological form and the substance of land of dust, sand, mud and rock as well as the outcrop of local street furniture architecture weather and the effects of weathering, and then of the often extreme and exotic colour of lichen, peat and mosses. My work exploits ...

Jose Luis Munoz Rodriguez - Jose Luis Munoz paints muted abstracted environmental portraits that explore themes such as climate change, urban development, lost civilizations, urban sprawl and the material hubris humans leave in their wake. I find myself on the constant look out for abstract art that ignites my mind in some way and that's why I'm writing about Jose's Luis Munoz's work today What interests me about Munoz's abstract paintings is that while they are pretty to look at, they are titled in such a way that they are refreshingly relevant. They speak of history, the environment and how humans interact with it. They have meaning beyond their muted colors and strong horizontal compositions. I'm referring here to titles that actually correlate with the compositions. The plausible connection between the two pushes you to study the work more closely. When us art oriented folk think of Malaga Spain we associate this place with Pablo Picasso's hometown. And when we've got Picasso on our mind, if we bracket cubism from our thought process, we think about a hyper sensual art oriented towards human corporeality. Jose Luis Munoz - also from Malaga, has ...

George Oommen - George Oommen: The Image as the key Born in Munnar, Kerala, India, and educated in India, Mexico, and the United States, George Oommen continues to derive artistic inspiration from the lush green landscapes of his homeland. Every winter, Oommen visits Mankotta, a small island in the inland waters of Kerala in southwestern India, ten miles from Oommen's ancestral home. The weeks spent there fuel his painting year round. What follows is a series of questions and answers by Oommen about his work. The conversation took place over a series of days but reflects a lifetime of thinking about the meaning of his art. Q: What is the goal of your art? What inspires and motivates you as an artist? A: My painting is fundamentally about communicating what I see in my mind's eye. While verbal expression is the predominant form of communication, from early childhood, I have had a facility with visual expression. Painting is my vehicle for this. The specific goal of my art changes with each series I embark upon, but the general objective is always to transfer the image in my mind to the canvas There are many sources of inspiration for me--it could ...

Francisco Landazabal - In a world where life passes too quickly and the instant runs away suddenly I chose to live calmly to study the inner nature of things. I have been my entire life enquiring about the whole reality, and hence my journey through various disciplines like fine arts, philosophy and even technology. My art is a human art, where being in touch with people and nature is extremely important, but then, I always return to the silent retreat of my Atelier in the mountains of Colombia to find the essence of things on the tip of my brushes and painting knives which results in the form of colorful and vibrant compositions, where a sort of magic is revealed. Sometimes it is very close to impressionism or expressionism, and sometimes it is fully abstract, a dance of the mere color masses and shades changing to allow the watcher to dream and complete the artwork. ...

Robin Antar - My abstract pieces depict the waves of thoughts moving through my mind at various moments. Sometimes, I sit in front of the stone, shut my eyes and meditate before starting the art process. I think of the form I need to create to transfer feelings of tranquility onto these works. When I feel angry, I attack the stone with the same mass array of sharp and powerful tools such as 7-inch diamond blades and high-powered air hammers, to chisel away and eliminate my stress, anxiety, and frustration. These emotions vanish as they are infused into the rock. Its true beauty of these sculpture lays not merely in its physical presence, but in its soul. My point is to bring a dead rock to life. What better way than to give it a physical shape and breathe my emotions into its grooves ...

Tamara Sorkin - I have always worked from organic subjects- plants, animals, or the human body, but usually I arrive at an abstract, "zoomorphic" description, that enables me a wider perspective. ...

Franziska Turek - This painting is individual, without any compromise, it combinates the occurence with intuition. The pictures are intrinsic of a special magic, which is not intended or planned, its resulting out of the painting process. The organic impressioned spaces and worlds of this pictures lead to associations and they will contemplate the art of painting themselves, they open a fascinating spectrum of color, area, line, which combines to mythical compactness. ...

Suzanne Mcclelland - DESIGNER, ARTIST, INSTRUCTOR, AND MENTOR II am a professional artist and Designer in the Sacramento area. I have a love for being creative with my clients in their home and office projects. Art has always been a love of mine. Because I visit so many homes and office I decided to extend my professional ability to create wonderful spaces for my clients. I want to bring more knowledge to the public on how I create my artwork and how it brings life to their spaces. I love the color, texture and the flow of the Pastel medium that I can use to make the piece fit in that special place. I mostly blend the pastels and use vibrant hughes. I build layer on top of layer to get the effect I want. I use different papers to create different effects that I want and go from there. I am an abstract artist and love the journey it takes me. I also work in Acrylics which I am now working with some new ideas, and will be sharing that with all of you soon. I love the energy that I feel when I work with my paintings which I share with ...

    C. Mari Pack - I paint with the conviction that color can manipulate the mind; it can make the heart beat faster, whet the appetite, or spark a memory. Much of our reaction to color is subliminal, and we are generally unaware of its pervasive and seductive effects. The colors we see are invariably influenced by what we feel; therefore, we can never really separate what we see from what we know. Contrast and color are essential in my process. I start by selecting two or three colors; I work the canvas from all angles discovering new forms of composition through the use of movement and gravity. I push the paint to its chemical limit allowing it to mutate and evolve. My work is based on the fact that we have become imprinted with a reaction to colors, shapes, and patterns. Through the use of both color psychology and geology, and executed through chemistry I have created visual colorscapes that engage both the conscious and subconscious, provoking the audience to find imagery through movement. Everyone sees something different! What do you see?...

Luise Andersen - Luise'Mignon' Andersen Luise'Mignon' Andersen has only recently begun to reveal her lifes work. Soon after her debut she exploded onto the mainstream art world. Her breathtaking pieces have captured international interest. The stories Luise'Mignon' is telling through her truly deep, layered works seem to decipher the past and foretell the future, perhaps sharing her window to other dimensions and a seventh sense. Her detailed acrylic'Mignon' series speaks to the beholder. They inspire raw emotion and ignite ones imagination. The indescribable nature of the "Duree De Ma Vie" in particular has a growing portion of the art community considering it the conception of an entirely new style.
