Artists Describing Their Art:

Vladimir Volosov - I was born in 1937 in Leningrad, USSR (now St. Petersburg, Russia). My way to art was a lengthy one. Before becoming an artist, I studied for thirty years at the forefront of modern physics as a PhD scientist and professor, author more than 150 scientific articles in contemporary laser physics. Thirty years of strenuous scientific work on the front edge of modern physics gives me a deep feeling for the anxiety and unprotectedness of the world's beauty. The formula, "beauty saves the world" fits my own attitude. My creed is also embodied in the statement: "to have time to realize everything given to you by Nature." At the threshold of my fifties, I decided to live one more life, a new, alluring life of the free artist. I walked away from my established scientific career and completely devoted myself to painting. In 1991 I founded and headed the association "Light, Color and Art" to connect with scientists engaged in the arts. The main directions of my paintings are lyrical realism and abstract compositions. My paintings are about light, color, atmosphere and space. For me, the most important elements are light and color and their juxtaposition/nexus/meeting of...

Walther Von Krenner - When I realized the meaning of the law in art I could express the invisible sanctity of mountains and rivers. This I, for many years was not born in the mountains, I did see them, but I left them alone. I saw them only with my eyes. Now mountains and rivers let me talk for them; they were born within me and I within them. Mountains and rivers have met with the sacred in me and as the feeling grew I finally brought them home to me. Oceans have currents, mountains have currents too, only hidden. As the sea has ebb and tide so mountains have mutual inclination. Mountains are nothing but the sea, the sea is nothing but mountains. Mountains and sea also know that I have the right conception about them. To have received the natural law of heaven and earth is the being essence of mountains and rivers. To have this law for brush and ink is the way to represent mountains and rivers. Without this law they are but ink and paint. ...

Dave Martsolf - Dave Martsolf I have a hand-drawing personal style that I love, but also use photorealistic collage style for some surreal work. In addition, I continue to enjoy explorations in every direction. My surreal visionary style is conceived in the bowels of endless empty space. Worlds come out of nowhere to define and fill empty space with form and reflected light. I use posed photographs with specific viewpoints that join seamlessly with other images to develop a hallucinogenic, some say gut-wrenching realistic space where mind-bending visions rule. My personal drawing style is in its simplest essence the line the drawn line and what it represented as the delineation of a form, a space, almost the way a topographical line feels out the form of a hill, or the way a blind man feels out the tender forms of his or her lover. That line is also the signature of the vibration of life and lifes emotions, twisted by the influence of others, fighting for a day in the sun, learning the way of calm, the mastery of the surf of life and the swell of love and anger. Brownian motion, cosmic ray decay, elemental particles, the paths of ...

Nicholas Down - During the past few years I have had the privilege of visiting some of the most beautiful landscapes on earth including California's Sequoia National Forest, Yosemite and Joshua Tree National Parks, the red rocks of Sedona Arizona, the tough deserts of Canyonlands and Arches in Utah, Monument Valley in Navajo Nation, and of course the Grand Canyon. I was awestruck with the beauty and silences of these places and deeply inspired to create a number of new paintings and films which attempt to capture the essence of what I felt both as an artist and as a human being. I am increasingly aware of the threats to these landscapes, not just in the short term, but in the future, as the effects of climate change begin to alter rain patterns, glaciers and local ecologies in ways we are only just beginning to comprehend. My paintings are part of my extended homage to nature and are my abstract impressions of colour, mystery, and the spirit of place. My recent paintings have been hugely influenced by the winter here in New York State... frozen waterfalls, ice, snow drifts and landscapes blazing in winter hues. Technical Notes I continue to use the ...

Aisha Haider - Welcome to my gallery. I was born in Lancashire in England. I am a self taught artist and have been painting ever since I can remember. I paint in acrylics because of its versatility. Painting has always been a strong part of my life and it is who I am. Painting is an unquechable addiction that I get immense pleasure out of. I paint in an impressionistic style using a little bit of inspiration that comes from nature whilst adding my own elements too. My painting are mostly vibrant and modern. My favourite subjects are umbrellas, reflections and trees. I am very fortunate to have sold over 500 paintings in the Uk and 5 other countries. I hope you enjoy looking at my work and find something to your taste. aEURoeAs music is the poetry of sound, so is painting the poetry of sightaEUR James McNeil Whistler...

Harrie Sijbers - Born in 1953, Sint Oedenrode, Holland, Harrie Sijbers graduated with honour at the Design Academy Eindhoven His very expressive paintings show his pronounced taste for abstract, landscape and floral compositions almost like abstraction. Indeed, the artist is mainly inspired by nature to realize luminous artworks full of sensibility. Thanks to a very dynamic brushstroke and bright colors, Harrie passes on his enthusiasm and his love of life. Each of his works is resolute in its style and conveys a pictorial liveliness resulting in a unique and innovative perspective aEUR" such a rich perspective that it elevates his works to the level of pure aesthetic lyricism. As he often paints with only a palette knife his paintings show big amoounts of oilpaint and nice fabrics. He always works with high quality materials. See more at www.harriesijbers.nl ...

Jim Lively - Whether portrayed in the abstract, realism, or somewhere in between, I am most influenced by both the beautiful and unattractive components of contemporary urban culture. Many times, one painting will reflect both components. My art tends to focus upon interesting juxtapositions of close-up images of human faces. Often, the larger images border upon realism and are caught expressing a panoply of emotions usually directed at the other images that share the canvas. Several of my recent works such as the tongue in cheek entitled "Lenin and Things" contain unlikely combinations of images such as a statue of Lenin which is dwarfed by a billboard size fashion model displaying a vacuous stare. A number of works contain both large images and interrelated small images. For example in the painting "Staring at Natalie", all the smaller images are a depiction of a collective group of voyeurs staring at a larger image of a posed fashion model. I want those viewing the painting to be the ultimate voyeur. The viewer is not only drawn initially to the larger image in its own right but also cannot help but then notice the relationship of the smaller images to the large image. Works displayed ...

Nancy Bechtol - Artists explore and give the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. I visualize and think with keen beliefs and insights. Reflection of human and societal concerns which cross emotional boundaries-- communicating that which is unspoken. My traditional art foundations of drawing, painting and printmaking, evolved into video, digital photography and experimental media. I use digital photography and imaging to envision the concepts originating from the creative pulse. An individual artist explores and gives the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. Liz L. Friel - Abstract painting communicates emotion and thought in an alternative perspective. The idea of communication that is further involved is about memories, the unconscious, how the image in the painting resembles something. Certain images, textures and compositions can cause emotions and visions to surface yet still lay vague to the viewer. My intention is in hope that viewers will find something under the surface, to look beyond the obvious. Some of my motivation emerges from an attraction to line, light and space designs in interior areas and architecture. However, it really comes down to creating art because I need to for myself. Many have said my work is tranquil, uplifting, zen, calming, holds a strong sense of light, space and depth, atmospheric...emotional landscapes. Thank you for viewing my artwork.
