Artists Describing Their Art:

Shoshannah Brombacher - Art makes the world within the artist visible. Classical music, poetry, Jewish and Chassidic stories, traveling, the love for people and memories of eras gone but not forgotten, cities where I lived and worked, like Amsterdam, Berlin, Jerusalem, New York, or visitedm, lie Prague and Sicily, are the main ingredients of my art. My art is like the water of the canals of my native Amsterdam, Rembrandts city, the deeper you look into it, the more you see. A reflection of a reflection of a reflection...look, what you see is not what you see. My art contains texts and letters, lets writing come alive, and reflects my deep connection with the Dutch 17th century Masters, German expressionism, Russian art and medieval miniatures. My art is also a tribute to music and the world of the great Chassidic masters of Eastern Europe. The Kotzker Rebbe listened to a Chassidic storyteller in the street and stated He told what he wanted and I heard what I needed. That is Art. ...

Paul Berriff - International award winning fine art photographer and documentary film maker. I have been behind the lens since 1962 and continue to produce fine art photographs and television and movie films. During the 1960's I photographed many of the rock legends such as The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Roy Orbison, Pink Floyd and many many more. My work has been sought by collectors worldwide and exhibited in many prestigious locations....

Paul Berriff - Janet Munro - American Artist JL. Munro, is a contemporary self - taught painter who in more than 40 years of work, has achieved a great amount of recognition. Paintings by Munro are listed in many important public and private collections, including the Smithsonian Institution, Museum of American Folk Art, The John and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, and the Nantucket Whaling Museum, is to list only a few. JL. Munro was born in Massachusetts, and her earliest American roots trace back to the first settlers of Cape Cod, Nantucket, and New Amsterdam (New York) in the 1600's, including direct family lines to the Swain, Dolor Davis, Gardner, Hyde, Eaton, Holmes, and Cook family trees. Munro describes her canvases as "pictorial - history" or that they are paintings with a message - actually read by the viewer, like a page in a book, with a noted focus on the waterfront lives of her own ancestors. Munro's favorite subjects include her native Massachusetts and New York. Whether it is a bustling town center, a quiet bayside, or illustrating living by the sea, Munro is always striving for realism, and carefully finishes each canvas to tell a story of American History. JL. Munro - born [Janet Andrea Lehne] ...

James Hill - My work explores the use of color and rhythm to create moving images that seek to provoke a particular mood or emotion by invoking a memory or moment that is meaningful to the viewer. My latest works include a study of the massive power inside thunderstorms and lightning strikes including a 6x10 oil of a storm entitled Tempest. These new paintings reflect the change in the weather patterns throughout our world thanks to global warming, which no well-educated person can deny these days. My paintings are intended to glorify the Masters Works and The awe of Creation, the Universe, the Stars and Planets, and our own incredible Earthly Skies and Lands. My other works include Fantasy, Gothic, Steampunk and Science Fiction of Utopian design cities of the future that require no use of fossil fuels at all as I look to give humanity hope for a better future of free power and sustainable living on this planet as we look to preserve it and encourage the rebuilding of nature across the world as we are but shepherds of Gods creation. ...

Michael Todd Longhofer - I paint because I have a passion to do so. That passion began in early childhood and continues to grow to this day. I love everything about it...the creative process, the ability to express emotions, the blending of color and the smell of paint. I can't imagine a world without it. It is who I am and what I do. The subject matter of my paintings ranges from contemporary cityscapes and landscapes to contemplative figure studies. They are a chronicle of both my life experience and my imagination. My style of painting is realism and my technique has been called "photo-impressionistic". Perspective, depth and value are key components of my work, as well as the use of color to create the illusion of light to set the mood of the piece. I live in the Metroplex area, working full time as a painter. I earned my BFA from The Laguna College of Art and Design. My hope is that I'll be accepted into a master's program in the future. My commissioned works include landscapes, portraits and murals....

Michael Chomick - Being a figurative artist, my work over the past 20 years has encompassed a variety of mediums, i.e.: printmaking, mixed media sculptures, small upto mural-sized oil paintings, acrylic/bas-relief paintings, ink or graphite drawings, and constructions with various objects; all the while maintaining a strong focus on a singular theme - Exploration of the "Human Condition". The works dare to ask, in sometimes simple or complicated terms, the question of what this "Human Conditiion" is. And via the works already completed in various genres and media, the viewer is compelled to search within or externally for the answers of such queries. The genesis, or the root of the works, often stem from a point of inquiry that I wish to convey tangibly for the viewer so that they may, if driven to, pose a dialogue within themselves in the offshoot towards their own personal advancement. Being that life can gravitate in the direction of complicacy and varietal issues, so does the body of works that I have produced over the past 2 decades employing various mediums. The delving into the different media has not only kept it fresh for me as an artist, but also serves to point...

Stephen Fessler - Artist's Statement: Visionism All my images are born accidentally. I tack my studio dropcloths onto the wall once they've become sufficiently splattered with paint, and search the surface for suggestions. I'll discover an image within a tangle of marks, and paint to free it, an archaeologist unearthing an artifact. This process leads to related discoveries, and the more I find, the better I understand the space they inhabit, and a painting is underway. In this way does the painting gradually reveal its content and mood. Everything I like of the art I've seen, Eastern and Western, ancient and modern, sacred and profane, ends up in my work. It must be that, as I gaze at my randomly stained surfaces, these remembered images give clues as to what to look for. The larger canvases are free-hanging, fitted with grommets and intended to be tacked directly to the wall like a tapestry or banner. Smaller works on canvas are mounted and stretched so as to preserve their irregular edges. Stephen Fessler Artists' Statement: Directed Perception My mode of seeing changes when something has caught my attention. My "directed perception" chooses what I will see while obscuring everything...

Brian Josselyn - ' I use thick, rich paint to translate the beauty, and excitment of a moment into a lusious vision. The scultural presence of thick paint tempts you to touch it with it's seductive tactile appeal. . Dramitic lightin futher abstracts familar imagery creating a new provocitive view.' ...

Marcus Thomas - The development of my art is dictated by concept, color, and texture. I am a self proclaimed Urban Monk (no religious affiliation) because of my strict dedication to art. I started training academically in the arts at six. I studied for twelve years under the instruction of Donna Boiman at The Central Ohio Art Academy. After graduating highschool I went on to study a general fine arts education for eight years at Savannah College of Art and Design where I fell in love with the southern life style and adapted my love of barbecue into my own style of mixed media art called Post Modern Barbequeism (pronounced- Bar-Be-Q-ism) which brings a dialog and playfulness of cultures, societies, races, and soul into a format everyone can take a bite of. Over the last two years I have recently taken my art into the form of literature as well writing a collection of poetry published, screen plays, art books, and am currently writing a play to be produced later in the upcoming year....

Ric Hall And Ron Schmitt - These pastel paintings are collaborative work by artists Ric Hall and Ron Schmitt. Ric and Ron work simultaneously, standing next to one another. They start each piece with no conscious plan as to what the final result will be. Rather, they rely on spontaneous collaboration in the moment to allow the images to develop. Working literally over and around each other, both artists develop all areas of the image. They work with little verbal discussion or debate, allowing their strokes to do the talking. At various points in the process they apply an anhydrous alcohol fixative to keep the pigment from shifting and ready it for the next layer of color. Ric and Ron have been painting using this method for over 25 years, even as their technique and perspectives have matured....

Dion Mcinnis - Anyone can take a photograph...push a button. The magic is in the seeing...seeing with all your senses. My work, no matter the subject, comes from seeing with all my senses and then creating to share with others. www.PoetVision.com...

Lynette Seiter - The world is full of beautiful sunsets, quiet lakes, majestic mountains, nostalgic streets and interesting people. I love the beauty of nature, the excitement of a city street and the diversity of people. I like to paint the world as it really is. Idealistic painting is pretty but I find beauty in things as they really are: a rock formations with it's cracks and crags, an exposed tree root as it twists in and out of itself. Even man made things are beautiful: buildings, streets, bridges. I love the shape and color of buttons. Flowers and fruit offer a whole array of shapes and colors that dazzle the eye just as they are. I would like to share a little bit of it with others. I would hope that a beautiful or interesting scene will uplift and inspire someone to live better, smile more often and treat our world and other people with care and respect. I would love to share with others what God has so freely given to me. It is my hope that my artwork will bring peace and joy to those who see it and that each will enjoy and be grateful for the beautiful ...
