  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Iwona Jankowski - My first works of art I have created as a child depicted horses. Drawing them, I thought I could feel every muscle of the horse I drew. It was far from perfect but the feeling remains. Even today, after many years, my favorite subject is Horses. For me the horse, beside the beautiful gracious body, is a symbol of a free soul, loyalty and trust. Especially Ii?1/2m fascinated by their eyes. An eye, as old people say, is a window to a soul. When you look in their trustful eyes, you can see they want to connect with us and are always as a vivid shadow that needs to be close, to follow and to please, and blindly doni?1/2t expect anything in return i?1/2 just hopes for love and simple friendship for life. Over the past ten years my work has transformed from a semi-realistic, simplified close-ups of my subjects, into a floating, colorful i?1/2Mottledi?1/2 compositions. My Mottled Horses - Equine art developed since 2003-4 in my new i?1/2Mottledi?1/2 style that merges abstract and expressionism with a touch of realism. The subject is created on a colorful abstract background to express feelings, often shown as a close-...

Phil Mokaraka Berry - Ko Whakatere te Maunga Ko Waima te Awa Ko Maamari te Waka Ko Te Mahurehure te Hapu Ko Nga Puhi te Iwi Ko Tuhirangi te Marae Kia ora, Phil Mokaraka Berry has been producing Contemporary Maori Art works for over ten years. His work consists of Maori myths and traditions based on well known stories and beliefs. He has produced a large series on Maui and his exploits and his final demise. Other works involve the connection between Papatuanuku (mother earth) and Maori and the sacredness of our whenua (land). He has also produced works on Kaitiaki (guardians), trying to capture the Mauri (life force) and the guardianship role of them and the relationship to their and our environments. His works are always evolving, sometimes simplifying, sometimes complex He uses the kowhaiwhai (maori designs)as a symbol of being and celebrating being Maori and also linking back towards our/my Whakapapa (heritage). ...

Christine Montague - Christine Montague is a professional award winning visual artist known for her portraiture commissions, figurative landscape art, and polar bear oil paintings. Why polar bears The character and spirit of the bears, their high intelligence think great ape, their solitary lifestyle, excellent mothering skills, their place in our world, and the very landscape they wander in, embodies all that I have tried to represent in my other artworks - spirit, character, intelligence, personality, solitude without loneliness, discovery, mindfulness, joy, beauty, escape. Travels to the Canadian arctic Iqaluit Cape Dorset in Nunavut and subarctic Churchill,Manitoba, Canada - polar bear capital of the world and my stay at the Churchill Northern Studies Centre Churchill, Manitoba, Canada, furthered my education and wonder for these magnificent bears and the magical landscape and skyscape - the northern lights. Polar bears are definitely a canary in the coal mine symbol of climate change and my polar bear paintings often symbolize this potential for great loss as their numbers reduce. The effect vanishing ice has on the survival of the polar bear resulted in my series such as the Sink Swim Series. But other works simply pay tribute to this wonder animal in its magical, mysterious environment of frozen ...

Christine Montague - Jim Stevens - Composition, value and form take center stage in my art. My work explores the combined impact of empty space and light in unique presentations that underscore drama and wonder. Legally blind, I see in the spaces between reality and in my art space becomes a shade, a tone, a tint, and even an invisible brush. I am an internationally collected and award winning artist and author. Retired from the University of Colorado, I studied art from an early age as an apprentice to master oil and watercolor painters, sculptors and stone and gem carvers. My diverse skill set and love of art in its many forms eventually guided me to the creation of my signature monofilament and abstract linear paintings....

Kyoko Yamaji - What I paint is emotion, especially the beauty of love, the strength of love. Human or animals, unconditional, with sympathy and compassion, caring, sharing and also enjoying. Not only babies, any living things need to be loved. And the utmost form of joy comes not from wealth, but from loving the others. Only who devoted oneself would know. This is my theme....

John Cielukowski - I received my BA in Fine Arts from Montclair University in New Jersey in 1981. I also studied at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) and The Art Students League in New York City. I enjoy painting vintage amusement park scenes, farm animals, domestic and feral felines and industrial landscapes. With my paintings of farm animals I try to convey that these animals have the same depth of emotion, feel joy and suffer just like our domesticated pets do. I donate my paintings and prints to local non-profit Central Florida groups such as (Save The Manatee Club, The Brevard Achievement Center, The Space Coast Feline Network and the Humane Society of Central Brevard) for their fund-raising efforts. I also donate to national animal welfare groups like Farm Sanctuary, in Woodstock, NY. I am an active member of the Central Brevard Art Association. I am responsible for hanging artwork at one of our aEURoeArt in Public SpacesaEUR locations....

Terri Cabral - Artists Statement I am a painter of people, animals and the natural world. I strive in my painting to reveal the unique essence of each of my subjects through the distillation of light and color into recognizable form and substance. I continue to be greatly influenced by my uncle, Cuban Vanguardia painter Antonio Gattorno. He was known for his versatility and his ability to paint masterfully in a variety of styles. I am constantly experimenting with styles and developing my sense of versatility. ...

Terri Cabral - Tomas Castano - Tomas Castano was born in Santander (Spain) in 1953. From a young age shows a special inclination towards drawing, but until the age of 17 years he does not take the first brushes and start painting. Self-taught, Tomas carved himself, based on determination and enthusiasm. He has a realistic style, his paintings are very well drawn and he also worries for the composition and perspective of his works. He is a landscape artist but characterized by his architectural work. His work is characterized by a serene and poetic realism, which translates the artist's delight when he paints streets of old quarters, antique buildings and facades with tradition. His paintings catch the magic of the aesthetics of the antiques, and transmit all the warmth and humanization of unprocessed environments by modern life. He has shown his work in group exhibitions in several countries such as Germany, Netherlands, USA, France, Argentina, Japan, Italy, Korea and numerous solo and group exhibitions in Spain. Tomas Castano works represented Cantabria in the Florence Biennale in the 2005 edition. His work is recognized by the distinctive style and ambience that he creates in finishing his series of old taverns. His work is ...
