  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Lubomir Korenko - For many years and after all my experiences, I devote myself to expressive and abstract painting. I find inspiration all around me, in the natural landscape, people's behaviours and world events. I like to experiment with different styles of painting but at the moment my preferred medium is watercolour because of its independence. The colours on the paper blend and run together, creating wonderful and often unexpected compositions on their own. I also think the most important thing about my art is drawing. The line is an integral part within the structure of making art. My work always begins with line and continues, adding the texture of drawing to the painting. I always charge my paintings with some energy and I try to present a visualisation of my soul, flow of energy and strong emotions. I always tell a story but I still like to leave the door open for a viewer's imagination, so he can enter the world in my paintings and create his own stories. ...

Chris Jehn - I am primarily a self taught artist and have always felt creative. I worked my way through college by teaching crafts at an arts and crafts store, everything from embroidery and macrame to tole painting and pottery. I have taken numerous workshops from other practicing artists. Being with a group of other artists creates a synergy that inspires me. I now primarily work with acrylics and collage. I especially love intense color, and have made a study of color composition. One of the main reasons I live in Colorado is because almost everywhere you look there is something wonderful, and IaEURtmm compelled to try to paint what I see and feel. ...

Edelweiss Calcagno - www.edelweisscalcagno.com +1-240-701-9100 Using different techniques, some of them mixed together to create new unique techniques. My art is formed by adding layer after layer, producing extraordinary illusions making the mind get involved in the labyrinth of colors and materials. Viewers never stop discovering new things - there is something fresh each time they look at my pieces. My source of inspiration is that a picture can speak a thousand words. I have seen many times how my art can touch people. I believe in the freedom of rights and equality for all, and these beliefs impact my artwork and my message. My art does not judge, but it is honest, even when this means stating what I see there is a strong message. I trust my art because the word that comes out from it is a positive word. I discovered the beauty of creating sculptures and prints in addition to doing paintings, etching and restoring art and now they have become part of who I am. There are the infinite possibilities hidden in sculpture. Between mixed media, aluminum casting, and more I love to touch any type of material and find new ways to use ...

Nathalie Vin - When not working on fixed commissions or client-led designs, Nathalie is drawn to expressing philosophical notions, "permanence and impermanence, life and death, man versus nature, the future and our responses to it." There are undoubtedly recurrent themes in her work, an outcome of her innate instincts and interests. She is fascinated by the notion of the essential'now', that ever-fleeting moment when eternity is glimpsed but never retained. She is intrigued by nature and how small our human concerns are in comparison to it. The concept of microcosm within the macrocosm and how fragments are echoed and repeated to form the larger picture, embodies her work. Her fundamental activity is with fine art mosaics but her life and explorative curiosity informs her art, working with installation (perhaps the most monumental example of this is The Glow project), film, commissioned photographic documentaries for Holocaust Memorial day, sculpture and painting. Considering the process, Nathalie's work investigates the small and how it builds into a larger whole. Whether she is making film, a mosaic piece or an installation she puts elements together like a puzzle. These could be mosaic tiles, wood elements, photographic or video images, memorabilia of people's ...

Carol Santora - I feel a special connection to animals, and as an artist, I express that special connection in paint. Focusing on the horse, I portray their spirits and soulsaEUR"their energy, movement and physical presence with drips and splashes of paint over texturized surfaces with simple line drawings.A Whether employing vivid hues, muted tones or black and white, the colors are random.A I pour, drip and spray paint, tilting the canvas to move the pigments and create runs. With the assistance of a palette knife, I scrape areas, move paint and create texture. A The painting develops with this process of addition and subtraction aEUR" blotting, scrubbing and sanding some areas, and layering more paint to other areas.A ...

Laurie Brown - My work is a painstakingly time-consuming process; large sheets of fine white paper are cut into strips of varying lengths and widths, individually hand-toned, rolled tightly, and secured with thread. Those individual spools of paper are then married together atop a fresh sheet of paper, to create the finished composition. Each small spool is just a fraction of the whole, arranged to bring forth images which are sometimes subjective, at other times abstract. Within each completed piece there is a certain rhythm, designed to hold the gaze of its audience. I experiment with hue, texture, and pattern, to move the viewer's eye through each work of art. Large pieces consume pounds of paper, several spools of thread, and hundreds of hours to complete. I came across an old photograph of myself at summer camp in the '70s, making a necklace from rolled-up strips of magazine. This is what sparked the idea for these "three-dimensional paper art" pieces, which I have been creating for over six years. The inspiration for my work comes from many places; architecture, fashion, travels, but also from the Masters, such as Matisse, Picasso, and especially Seurat. Intrigued by his grand scenes ...

Pim Van Der Wel - Pim van der Wel (1950) combines the art of making watercolours with his work as a business economist. After lessons in all the basic drawing techniques by two Dutch painters in the periods 1980/1987 and 1994/1996 he specialised himself in watercolours. Watercolour offers hardly any limitations, so he can show what he likes and that is light and shadow in dents, creases and gloss etc. His objects are sports (mainly football), cans, torsos, animals (cows, sheep, dogs and chicken). In the last 10 years his work has been shown at (group-)exhibitions in the Netherlands. Some galleries have his works permanently in stock. ...

Robert Nizamov - Born and trained in Russia, Robert Nizamov explores a variety of approaches to painting, from representational still lifes to more abstract landscapes that in many ways recall Impressionism and its analogous movements. Above all, Nizamov strives for the painterly painting, a re-dedication to the medium of paint and brushstroke, based neither on the current market nor modern trends, but born from the sacred act of putting brush to canvas. What results is an approach to painting that is as versatile and varied as the subjects Nizamov chooses to portray. Colors work to create mood: alternately muted and subdued, calm and relaxed, bright and vibrant. Likewise, composition is skillfully employed to set the tone for each painting, at times balanced and serene, other times creating a sense of disparity and tension. Perhaps the hallmark of Nizamov's work, however, is the movement conveyed in each individual brushstroke, masterfully created in the specific way he applies the paint, infusing his images with light and adding a depth and richness to his work.

Christy Park - The interface between photography and the plastic arts has consistently been a driving force in my work. I begin with a photograph and work with digital collage and sometimes add paint, ink, pastel or other materials to the printed image. My current works are portraits of animals which I photographed at fairs, reworked in photogshop and printed digitally. I am particularly interested in the expressive characteristics which these animals project. ...
