Artists Describing Their Art:
Renuka Pillai - My work deals with expression and color. My goal is to give the viewer an emotional experience when viewing each painting. My foundation in academic realism influences the recurrent themes in my paintings, they may be landscapes, human figurative studies, or still life arrangements using realism as an unifying ideal. Furthermore I have had a lifelong fascination with the abstract. I have worked as a minimalist and then using symbolic devices as an abstract expressionist to explore broader narratives. The diverse subject matter addressed in my work is connected with a common regard for simplicity, beauty, atmospheric tone and the timelesness of artistic expression. Debbi Chan - I am going to do an updated artist's statement. But until I submit it you have a short temporary one. As an artist I an fullfilled and contend. But at the same time I seek more , absorb more, and enjoy more. Art fills and fullfills me..I am always being an artist. My eyes see art always. This is not a hobby that I partake of when time suits. Art feeds me. Art consoles me. And being prolific it also takes my time. And for this I am thankful that i listened to my inner self. I am thankful for a following that grows by the minute. I enjoy you enjoying my portfolio. I also have come to realize that the coined phrase "starving artist" is a reality for some of us. But if you take another quote, my own , you will see that starving and rich pertain to material $. because of you the viewers , and because art is my life and my passion I can truly say that I AM RICH.. RICH WITH NO MONEY... and I can also say with truth that I am happy. I chose the path that allowed this rich life. There will continue ...
Dune Tencer - I have been told that I need to find a style, a theme, or a signature look to my art. Well I have. I love painting the landscapes of America's Southwest and my home state of Texas. I love painting the texture, color and size. Now that being said I find painting abstract and inks very freeing, relaxing and the inks are just down right fun. On occasion the canvas has a mind of its own and a painting just wants out. A good example of this can be found in the Geisha. My daughter challenged me to paint a really big painting. I had a roll of canvas, 8 feet long and 4 feet wide. Overwhelmed by the size I threw on some black paint and some red paint, spread it around. I then hung it from the ceiling of the studio and stepped back. There she was all I had to do was the finishing embellishment and 45 minutes later there stood the "GEISHA". This is not the sort of thing that happens often but what fun when it does. I hope you enjoy seeing my art as much as I do making it. Thank you. ...
