Artists Describing Their Art:
C. A. Hoffman - For me, my artwork is very personal. It reflects a lot about how I am feeling at any given time and place. I feel that art has to be on this personal level to completely capture how the artist is feeling daily, or trying to convey a certain thought or emotion at that particular moment. We all, at one time or another try to express our thoughts or ideas, whether it is to others or just to ourselves, by words, actions, ideas or pictures. If we are sucessful in this attempt, I think it shows through in our everyday work or art. I believe that one is either born to create art naturally or by learning. For me, I feel that I was born with this wonderful gift, and I try to improve upon it every day. In my photos and art, I hope to show how everyday objects and nature can capture our imaginations and feelings. Sometimes I work with an image to improve it, inhance it, or just to fuel the imagination. I truly hope this shows in all of my art. ...
Nancy Bechtol - Artists explore and give the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. I visualize and think with keen beliefs and insights. Reflection of human and societal concerns which cross emotional boundaries-- communicating that which is unspoken. Kichung Lizee - After coming to this country from Korea in the mid 60's to study art, among the many forms of Western art that I was introduced to, Abstract Expressionism interested me most. Currently I am in the process of synthesizing Eastern and Western approaches to art. Specifically, I'm adopting the techniques and materials of Eastern calligraphy to Western thematic material, my primary goal being to close the gap between East and West and reach for universal creativity. Eastern calligraphy I learned is a living and breathing spirit, rather than the dead and rigid tradition of thousands of years. It is uniquely a form that conveys the pulsation of life energy. Through it, one can experience all aspects of the living spectrum. Eastern calligraphic form reveals the kind of life the artist has led, as well as foreshadowing the person one will become. It is the art form that manifests the self as a way of life or philosophy of life. It is a powerful art form that operates through direct intuition. As an artist I rely heavily on creative intuition. Moving with changes in the stream of consciousness, my creative intuition somehow brings out the subconscious and superconscious through ...
Sebastian Novaky - Striving for a sense of harmony, even in the most uncertain of circumstances, inspires me to make sculpture. I aim to stimulate emotions, feelings and the imagination. I want to create an atmosphere conducive to achieving a sense of well-being, happiness and joy. My work is figurative but it is meant to be metaphorical, not simply representational. In attempting to achieve a spiritual balance in my life and work, I look for alternatives to the self-absorption, materialism and cynicism that often seem prevalent in society. I try to focus on the metaphysical rather than the evidence of the physical world. My sculpture is somewhat autobiographical. I left a successful financial career to pursue the creation of art when I became disillusioned with the purposelessness of accumulation. I discovered that thought, when acted upon, is transformative and very powerful. In my search for equilibrium in precarious situations be they emotional or economical, a moment of significant radical insight, brought about - not by a modification in material circumstances - but by a simple change in thought and the way those circumstances were perceived, revolutionized my life. I think of art as a form of language in which there are two simultaneous ...

Felix Velez - My art work is a combination of life, striving to create what influences me by everything I see, feel and experience. I focus on the environment and human nature. I like to bring history into our time by recreating life-like sculptures from famous personalities like Einstein. While I use a variety of materials and processes in each project, my methods are consistent. When working with clay or any medium, it is important to acknowledge the meaning of the sculpture. The topic matter of each body of work determines the materials I need to incorporate in the making of the sculpture, like clay, wood or metal. The experience is very rewarding when molding with my hands and capturing that moment in time. Sculpting is my way of being creative without limits. I continuously look for ways to discover new possibilities to challenge my imagination. Each piece of art, whether figurative or abstract, is an original and innovative design. It is delivered with excellence, performance and integrity....

Dmitrii Volkov - In my work I focus on combinations of volumes, patterns, colors or all together. They should interact, agree or disagree with each other. Listening to this conversation and forming this relationship are the most exciting things in art. Volumes often interact within a piece of art through crossing facets or absence of facets, polished planes and projecting parts as well as escape to the deep dark cavities and hollows. At times an object can be seen as a human, partially imperfect but constantly striving for perfection. I always treat objects and parts of objects as humans or groups of humans being unique individuals. My favorite material is carbon steel. It proves amazingly deep in case of natural treatment, i.e. waxing, polishing, and patination. It is oxidation ability that makes carbon steel far richer than precious metal in terms of its expressive properties. Traditionally, it is considered to be a disadvantage, yet indeed is a benefit due to the fact that kind of makes up for what the painter did not paint thus making a piece of art beautiful and expressive. Thank you for your interest...

David C Mendoza - The vastness of year's of experience in the "Arts" as Artist, Curator, Director, Designer, and Performer, elevates my artistry to the stature of "seasoned",like a fine wine. My pain and suffering are in enternal process and I prefer to keep them introspective to myself. Thus, my art reflects beauty, humor, satire, and intelligence. I am an aesthetic on the edge, implementing techniques, medium, and material at hand, the moment creative inspiration occurs. Through my art, I find I am sentimental and unwavering in my dedication to the creative experience of an artistic life....
Rasheed Amodu - RASHEED AMODU Artist Statement I started as a professional artist in 1985, before adding a Fine Arts degree, specializing in Painting, in 1991. One of my major aims is to wed creativity and artistic rendering in my artwork leading to diverse range of themes in my oeuvre. My graphic art background in Realism and my degree aided abstractions as well as impressionistic and expressionistic tendencies are often reflected in my artwork, which include my drawings, paintings, mixed media, and assemblages. I draw with pencil, charcoal, penink, and gouache on paper or embossed cards. My oil or acrylic paintings are usually on canvas. I do mixed media on paper, embossed card, and canvas. My assemblages are works produced with commonplace objects or personal items arranged and fixed on hardboard before being painted with oil or acrylic for aesthetic finesse. Some of the objects employed in my assemblages are beads, fabrics, combs, watches, straps, chains, cards, belts, spoons, forks, pens, ropes, lighters, shaving sticks, plugs, and bottle covers. The sources of the images I used in my works are from my society, literature on African art and foreign cultures as well as personal synthesis. I employed my artwork to visually document the ...
