  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Ken Hillberry - In art and in life, dynamics of balance, integrity and tolerant interaction of all elements or participants ought to be see, experienced and maintained. At the same time, the challenge of affecting this balance is creatively encountering all changes and adapt accordingly. For some, the destination or pre-determined outcomes are sought more often than not. Then there are some who savor the journey, thus witnessing and enjoying developments along the way. I fall into the latter category. It's like watching the film develop in a darkroom. the image takes form a little at a time right before my eyes. The creative process, for me, is void of pressure and timeless. The ability and practice and discipline are central in my approach. My creative intent is to engage a viewer in thought and emotion, as well as, with their eyes. Using imagination, retrospect or model, my range of composition can be conceptual, perhaps impressionistic or abstract in application, but always developed to evoke an awareness and appreciation for the relative conditions in life experience and art form as I incisively or playfully interpret my experiences along the way. ...

Stephen Fusco - Welcome, I am a full-time police artist, or forensic artist, for the Orange County Sheriff's Office in Orlando, Florida. I've actually been a police officer since March of 1980. My background as an investigator has been an important part of my success as a police artist but, my passion for art is the key ingrediant. I feel blessed that my artistic skills make a difference in peoples lives, as well as the contribution to sucessful prosecutions in major case investigations throughout Central Florida. I used to do most my police art in pencil, however now I use a Wacom pad and the computer to "airbrush" my work such as suspect composite drawings, age progression drawings, skull reconstructions, and post mortem drawings. There are numerous examples on this site that illustrate what computer art looks like. It is still done by hand except it's within the computer. I also do commercial art for the Sheriff, which I get to use my own creative freedom. I call it "artistic support." Artistic support comes in the form of illustrations, unit logos, t-shirt designs, memorial portraits, and police related paintings and renderings. When I do artistic support, I like ...

Mark Dedrie - Mark Dedrie, an artist in motion by Robin d'Arcy Shillcock The first things you notice when confronted by work of Belgian sculptor Mark Dedrie (1962) are the stylized shapes and their highly polished finish. Although working within the tradition in which colour is omitted in favour of form, his approach is not so much classical an literal as turning a refined distillation of visual reality into a sculptural statement. He transforms a world of colour and movement into a world of presences, of volumes and elegant lines, and manages weightlessness in heavy bronze. This results in tactile, visually attractive sculptures. There aren't too many sculptors who know how to stylize animal shapes well, and even fewer that seek the degree of refinement Dedrie is striving for. It results in soft and sensual surfaces that underline the exquisite grace of birds like ducks and long-legged waders. There are honestly merely a few I can name. Francois Pompon (France 1855-1933) worked on Rodin's marble sculptures before becoming one of the greatest animal sculptors of the modern era. His work instigated what I call the Movement of Form, comprising the sculptors who preferred to distance themselves from ...

Deborah Wilson - ARTIST STATEMENT - DEBORAH WILSON Ii?1/2m a native of Missouri, but, my husband and I have taken many opportunities to experience other areas of the US and our neighboring countries. So, my artwork is influenced by all of those cultures and environments which we have spent time in. This includes cross-country camping and hiking trips, which dip into Canada or Mexico, along with various missions trips, working vacations and temporary residences. We have gone on working vacations for extended time periods in USVI (St. John) and Yellowstone National Park. And, my husband and I were dual residents of Missouri and Hawaii for about 5 or 6 years. So, as you can imagine, there is great diversity of subject matter and I need several more lifetimes to paint everything that is wanting to be painted! Some paintings have been done in our camper, some in a makeshift studio in the closet, on the floor or on the dining room table. Here in Missouri, I have a studio separate from our house on our land, just outside of Springfield. Who we are and whatever is in our hearts tends to come out in our artwork. So, you will find a lot ...

Marilyn Nosewicz - Photography, and Painting are like Magic, Joy , My Birthday, and Christmas all wrapped into one good feeling. I work in Photography Silver Gelatin Black and White primarily and Color Photography. My Painting degree is from Syracuse University. Setyo Mardiyantoro - Setyo Mardiyatoro was born in Java, Indonesia the 13/04/64 and got a degree in Agricultural technology at the National University of Jember, Indonesia in 1990. In'91 he came to Italy to follow his real vocation which is artistic. At present he lives in Naples where he works as a painter. In his work there is all the history of his experience which has matured in two completely different worlds similar only for their richness and variety of traditional cultures and the production of works of art. The remembrance and the nostalgia for an exuberant nature can be seen in the Italian landscapes which admiration covers with a golden light and which are enriched with stylized birds, the symbol of sentiments and thoughts which they have recalled up. Images of oriental fairy tales, mythological scenes and animals confront one another with the enigmatic faces of western women in thoughtful attitudes. In his first works he is inspired by the technique of Indonesian Batik, where the "tik" is the drop of wax used to leave a point uncolored. In his contact with traditional western art he has found that pointillism is particularly near in it's results to this ...

Chary Castro-Marin - CHARY CASTRO-MARIN Artist's Statement I focus mainly on the theme of the particular piece and the communication of my feelings. These are my essential tools to connect with the viewer. By assuming the canons with which he or she is familiar I aim to create an atmosphere of empathy where a comfortable dialogue can ensue. As is obvious the relation with the viewer is crucial for me, my basic goal, since I consider myself merely a magic- maker. I begin by choosing a technical solution that seeks to manifest itself. In general I believe that's what painting is: the ideal vehicle to suggest illusions, hints of something that wants to be but that is only shapes and colors. The longing of all these years living outside of Cuba has marked me in profound ways, in diverse ways: from the language--the words themselves--the culture, the ethos. Through my work I metabolize the spaces that surround me and my vital experiences, the early life stages in Cuba and later here in the United States, first in New York and then in Phoenix. Living in these two American cities with very distinct and different identities and habits also...

Rute Santos - Love to create a new thing, something that born from my mind in a vision only i can see. Love to share it with all. creating is a need that all artists have, like if we need to speak out. Hope you like my work. it comes out naturally....

Mike Tedder - My work creates a juxtaposition of dreams, realities and sensations, fleeting moments from life inspired by my own experiences. I explore a sense of empathy for existing across different places and times, examining personal sensations of deja-vu, while moving through times, locations, and states of being, without a fixed linear chronology. Images often develop out of quick sketches, inspired by many things such as a dream, a feeling, something suddenly remembered, a song, or a particular experience. I work with a diverse range of materials, enjoying experimenting with different art media (collage, drawing, painting and printmaking). Sometimes great surprises and discoveries come from working in an alternative medium. My photography explores past events, experiences the present, and contemplates the future. The camera records, as a sketchbook, the essence of ideas, and the nuances of existence. Pathways are revealed in landscapes and faces that lead the explorer towards discoveries.I am fascinated by the area of shared experience and empathy between the photographer and his model. The creation of the image is a collaborative event, which extends beyond the moment to include the viewer within this collective process. ...

Monica Malbeck - I was born and raised in Romania, attending art school there. I graduated in 1974 from a highly successful art pilot program at age 18. Where I was offered exposure to all facets of art from visual communications to industrial design. This was followed by a successful career in fashion design with clients throughout Europe, U.S., and Japan. In 1990 I moved to the United States, and in 1996 I was introduced to digital media falling in love instantly with its versatility. I have been exploring digital design since then, trying to mix digital color and the illusions of texture and shape to capture fleeting, momentary thoughts and my feelings. My style varies depending on the subject being captured, as I always try to let the subject dictate the style rather than try to impose a repetitive style format. I have retired to Hawaii very early from a career as a fashion consultant, and decided to focus on art. My very first submission of my artwork to an international competition in Italy, was chosen among the finalists. I am a self-taught digital artist, and I like to explore a broad range of subjects. In my gallery you will...
