Artists Describing Their Art:
Kichung Lizee - After coming to this country from Korea in the mid 60's to study art, among the many forms of Western art that I was introduced to, Abstract Expressionism interested me most. Currently I am in the process of synthesizing Eastern and Western approaches to art. Specifically, I'm adopting the techniques and materials of Eastern calligraphy to Western thematic material, my primary goal being to close the gap between East and West and reach for universal creativity. Eastern calligraphy I learned is a living and breathing spirit, rather than the dead and rigid tradition of thousands of years. It is uniquely a form that conveys the pulsation of life energy. Through it, one can experience all aspects of the living spectrum. Eastern calligraphic form reveals the kind of life the artist has led, as well as foreshadowing the person one will become. It is the art form that manifests the self as a way of life or philosophy of life. It is a powerful art form that operates through direct intuition. As an artist I rely heavily on creative intuition. Moving with changes in the stream of consciousness, my creative intuition somehow brings out the subconscious and superconscious through ...

Natalia Flaherty - I love simple unpretentious creatures, attitudes, people and ways. I believe in kindness and logic. I'm thankful when I see the beauty of the ocean, mountains and the desert, none of which depend on human touch, but also great architecture, art and music, which take my heart and breath. ...
Kees Van Eyck - My works of art express a metarealistic perception of our world, traditional in the history of Dutch painting. However, the source of my inspiration can also be found in European surrealism as well in American hyper-, and photo realism. In my collection Portraits of Icons of the post-war period of the 20th century I introduced the iconography of our era. These images of celebrities characterise movie-stars, media personalities plus inspirational individuals from the field of music, art, politics and philosophy. With these portraits I pay tribute to famous people with extraordinary gifts and talents, who influenced the development of mankind and left their mark on various fields during the 20th century. My perception of life on Earth is often depicted in a surrealistic manner. My attitude towards our environment is charged with criticism as well as hope for a better future. My paintings aspire to evoke the sense of beauty and to raise awareness of burning issues in todays world....

Nora Cervino - Intuition, plays an important role in my creative process. My paintings, mosaics, drawings and photographs are direct representations of a journey that begins as a meditative process. Without a predetermined plan, the forms, colors, lines and themes in my imagery are developed. My work honours spontaneity and the essence of the magic I experience while I manipulate the materials I work with. The work is of a narrative nature, attempting to convey past and present personal experiences. Bold colors, lines, forms and themes are juxtaposed to create a melange of disparate elements harmoniously working together like life itself. By working in this intuitive manner, my work also attempts to provoke audiences to value and welcome the importance of subconscious thought and the relevance that it has on day to day living....
Bryan Patterson - Bryan Patterson is a Vermont artist and designer. Bryan is directly descended from Johannes Lapp, a founder of the Amish community in America. Among his relatives is Henry Lapp of the late 1800's. Henry was an amazing deaf mute carpenter/craftsman and has his work displayed in The Philadelphia Museum of Art. Bryan says, i?1/2I've always had a love of wood and began creating with it before learning of my Lapp ancestors.i?1/2 Bryan started woodworking professionally in 1977 and has had his work featured in several publications over the years. Concretions have added the newest development to Bryani?1/2s work. He and his family harvest these treasures while swimming in the gorgeous rivers of Vermont. The real enjoyment comes from their display of as many wonderful pictures they make in the mind's eye like those you see in the clouds. Mythology of the Abenaki Indian says that "Wana-games-ak, reckless creatures or those who have lost their minds, are little people of another genus, who inhabit rivers. They have narrow faces'like the blade of a hatchet', so only the profile has an outline. Their noses are high and aquiline,'so large as to be all ...
Renu Parkhi - "Me "Renu" artist from India, through photography and paintings would like to display the artistic existing elements in this world through my lens and brush which captures beautiful and ugly both and as my name "renu" which means though I am a small minute particle, element on this earth and I am existing in each and every element on this earth. Jill Zylke - My landscapes consist of scenes from my national and international travels. Some were painted on location and some were derived from photographs I took specifically to be used for paintings. They tend toward an impressionistic style. Through them I chronicle the intensity of that moment during which they are captured: the passage of light and atmosphere; the place where I stood painting and quiet while surrounded by the movement of people, breezes through the trees and clouds passing the sun; the rise and fall of the day's heat; the feelings evoked during a rarified time, in a place where I am confronted by vistas or people that are far different from my everyday experience. My portraits of dancers and musicians reflect my ongoing interest in flamenco and is a result of my contemplation of the differences between the ephemerality of music and the concreteness of art. Being a visual person, I find musical people, especially dancers, fascinating. Their ability to take something that is as invisible as a sound and translate it into movement is an endless source of interest for me. ...
