Artists Describing Their Art:
Paula Durbin - Photography has always captured my spirit. It was only natural that my creative "release" be expressed through the same medium. But, because I am a unique spirit, it had to have other levels of creativity - the photo itself just wasn't enough. My first creative approach to photography was the use of the Polaroid transfer technique. My work consisted of subjects that are still close to me: animals and nature. The technique suited me well; it expresses the selected image seen and it allows me to further express its beauty with the softness of the technique. The watercolor paper used brings yet another dimension to the image. A search for the true expression in my photography led me to explore the techniques of the Fresson family of photographers. The Fresson technique, which culminates in the special care given the developmental process and the paper used, presented me the opportunity to express the richness of my photography. My work now moves beyond that 'moment' and presents a depth and richness perhaps not otherwise felt. I am honored to be a part of the Fresson family. There are only a limited number of artists with whom I share this honor. Having gone ...
Doni Kendig - I am actively pursuing my life-long love affair with art and satisfying the ache to share my personal impressions of desert vistas, tranquil seas lit by the setting sun, the sense of an oncoming storm, the temper of the cat, the arrogance of the eagle, and the menace of the predator. Essentially self-taught, I combine my observations of life and the contents of uncounted art texts and impressions gained from visits to galleries and museums, with imagination. Traveling the world, and especially each time I visit Africa, I find my imagination fired up with new images I can hardly wait to paint. ...
David Larkins - I've always been intrigued by the luminosity and transparencies found in watercolor and acrylic mediums. I believe an artist must experience the painting - to absorb the surroundings, the atmosphere, to have a oneness with the subject matter before the first brush stroke is applied. My style is described as "Abstract Realism" and my strength is found in the composition. I'm drawn to diverse subject matter that challenges the viewer to see abstraction in the ordinary - to meld the "real" world with the "abstract". ...
Jeannette L. Jennings - My first cat came as part of the package with some used pottery equipment I purchased in 1979,'Amelia' posed next to me while I worked and soon a small clay cat was produced. This became the favorite piece of all who saw my work. Near the end of the 80's, I decided to specialize in cats: Cat Plates, Watch Cats (sculptures) and Bells, Cat Clocks, and Cat Pins. More recently Cookie Jars have been quite popular. I continue to explore other areas of work: tile, vases, masks, sculpture, and fountains. Neriage: mixing several different clay colors, has been a long time technique used in cats and my other work. All of the work on this site is hand built by me. ...

Matthew Campbell - The purpose of my art is: To reflect the creativity of the Creator, whether it be the grace, speed, power and skill of the athlete, the dignity of human life or the beauty of God's creation. Jose Luis Lazaro Ferre - I think the easiest way to define my activity as an artist and my intellectual approach to art would be to quote Apollinaire's thesis in his Les Peintres cubistes: meditations esthetiques, especially the following sections: ... Therefore, as an offer to the spirit, in the plastic arts, the fourth dimension should be generated by the three known dimensions: represented by the immensity of space eternally present in all the dimensions of a given moment ... Cubism differs from the painting that came before it because it is not the art of imitation, but the art of thought raised to the level of creation ... Scientific cubism is one of the pure trends. It is the art of painting new compositions with elements taken not from visual reality, but from the reality of knowledge ... Physical cubism is the art of painting compositions with elements taken primarily from virtual reality In my painting, I work with geometric figures arranged on different planes that overlap one another and blend into real shapes (bottles, cats, birds, fruit), fabricated objects (small origami birds and paper boats) and everyday things (hats, shoes, etc.) to create a world of mystery and sensuality. The lines I draw are ...
