Daniel King - Daniel spent his childhood in the midwestern United States, received his BFA in Media Studies at the Columbus College of Art & Design, and served as an Air Force Officer at the airplane maintenance/storage center in Tucson, Arizona. He is still making up for time lost. In 2006 Daniel returned to personal/experimental film. He began interrogating his relationship with military power, personal authority and the public representation of each. "The images I seek are beneath the surface, and along the perimeter of the designed social landscape, off the beaten path but not out of the city's shadow. I place the burden of dreams, yours and mine, on the places we live and work. Artificial and haphazard landscapes often ignored by society, or hidden from its inhabitants interest me in a very fundamental way.' 'From 2003-2004 I photographed the series "Grounded" focusing on the dreamlike experience of working at the military-industrial storage facility in Southern Arizona often referred to as "the Boneyard." This facility contains the wreckage of out-modded 20Th century defense, and offense, technology splayed across 1200 acres of the desert southwest.' 'By combining antiquated photo-mechanical cameras with the use of digital printing, I ...

Sonja Tellison - More than simple faerie tales, myths can teach, heal, act as morality guides, or beacons of inspiration along a sometimes murky spiritual path. The myths of a culture are it's soul. They are what's left behind when the political border lines have changed and the people themselves are gone. Myth helps us to understand our own nature as well as that of the world around us. Joseph Campbell, noted scholar and one of the foremost authorities on mythology states, "Myth must be kept alive. The people who can (do this) are artists . . . . The function of the artist is the mythologization of the environment and the world." At a time when we, as a society, rely more on science and technology for answers to our various quandries, than a collective, traditional knowledge, refocusing on mythologization is more important then ever. Are you anxious? Here, take a new pill! Are kids more violent? Must be the video games! The adage "There's nothing new under the sun." is itself certainly not a new concept. If we delve deep enough, the answers are already existent, like diamonds in the dark. When we forget the stories of our ancestors, we forget our...

Antoaneta Hillman - Writing poetry and short stories were my first steps on the pat of Art. I canaEURtmt imagine life without painting or creating because this is so natural for me and it is completing my life. Observing my surroundings and seeing so many amazing objects and situations are the raw material of my art. One life is not enough to transform all the ideas into a painting or sculpture. The excitement of this world is so overwhelming.I never fear not having inspiration and new ideas. Encaustic is the medium that suits my temperament completely - it is hot, fast and durable. Painting is giving me freedom....

Paolo Avanzi - Paolo Avanzi was born in Rosolina Rovigo in 1958 and graduated in Psychology. He landed to figurative arts after a diversified experience on several cultural disciplines creative writing, music etc His initial production is polymateric use of plastics and enamels and favors the informal. In 2004 he made his first solo exhibition in the Sandretto Museum in Pont Canavese. Since 2006 he has been moving towards an experimental figurative that is affected by these informal experiences. In 2007 he participated to the Miami International Art Fairs. New York and Seoul. In the following years he consolidated his experience in the major national art fairs. Among the countless solo shows we mention those at the Galleria Arte Capital in Brescia, the U. Mastroianni Museum in Marino, the Municipal Art Gallery of S. Michele Salentino, the Emmediarte Gallery in Milan and the Galleria Centro Arte Moderna in Pisa. His style is characterized by a process of fragmentation and deformation of the figure which is perceived as through a deforming mirror....

Istvan Szil - Istvan Szil/ crossingthetsdottingtheis Artist's Statement My work is based on the reconfiguration of materials and images . I alter objects and materials with the extreme sense of irony; choosing to address philosophical questions and cultural issues through employing succint humorous gestures. I constantly collect images from the internet , recognizing its search option as an unparaleled oportunity to gain access to wide variety of visual material. I alter the collected images by digital means to accommodate my comments relating to their source or context they were culled from. My sculptures enact visual stunts calling into question how objects are utilized within everyday life citing both the subtle marks that become embedded within objects and also also the effect that objects have within space. I am interested in the vocabulary of advertising and its ability to deliver the maximum of information in reductive , visual bites. Overall, my work shifts the use value of commonplace objects and images , through my subtle interventions. I invite the viewer to reflect upon these meticulously selected entities that are normally encountered within everyday life and by manipulating their functionality , I invest these objects and materials with a unique yet accessible sculptural presence. ...
