  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Rufus Adeniyi - I am a widely traveled Nigerian Aesthetics consultant. A graduate of University of London, Goldsmith. I believed in Art as a way of life and a reflection of the spiritual and socio-economic life of the people. My flair for natural things of beauty has no measure. Apart from my Art gallery, I also run a consultancy firm in all forms of artistic embellishment in fine furnishing for corporate bodies, private individuals and diplomatic missions. Married and strongly believe in modesty and fair play....

Phil Mokaraka Berry - Ko Whakatere te Maunga Ko Waima te Awa Ko Maamari te Waka Ko Te Mahurehure te Hapu Ko Nga Puhi te Iwi Ko Tuhirangi te Marae Kia ora, Phil Mokaraka Berry has been producing Contemporary Maori Art works for over ten years. His work consists of Maori myths and traditions based on well known stories and beliefs. He has produced a large series on Maui and his exploits and his final demise. Other works involve the connection between Papatuanuku (mother earth) and Maori and the sacredness of our whenua (land). He has also produced works on Kaitiaki (guardians), trying to capture the Mauri (life force) and the guardianship role of them and the relationship to their and our environments. His works are always evolving, sometimes simplifying, sometimes complex He uses the kowhaiwhai (maori designs)as a symbol of being and celebrating being Maori and also linking back towards our/my Whakapapa (heritage). ...

Kimmie Hamm - Everywhere you dream to go can become a part of you and everywhere you have been is a part of you. I am an explorer and optimist at heart, so when I set out to create something one word always comes to mind: Possibilities I feel that through art I can explore the visions in my mind, everything from a small flower or blade of grass to distant worlds filled with whimsy and thoughts of what ifaEUR|aEUR|. Culturally I have two aspects that influence me one being my Native American ancestry and the other my German immigrant ancestry. I am deeply rooted in the beauty and wonderment of nature. My wise grandmother told me if you have strong roots your sprit can fly anywhere and still return home. That saying has always stuck with me and in many ways sparked my imagination. The explorer in me must come from my immigrant ancestry. My great grandfatheraEURtms family traveled to America on a steam ship in 1874. I can imagine them traveling for what must have seemed like an eternity. I often contemplate what they must have been thinking, and try to express the excitement of the unknown and the anticipation ...

Gideon Bendor - Born 1959. 1989 Award student in the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art (PAFA) in Philadelphia. Exhibited in groups over the US, EU and IL. Collected by the American Museum in Philadelphia and private owners from the US, RU, and IL. The work combined classical texture techniques in "OilWax" (cold press sticks) on canvas. The original and restless paintings Inventing both semi-abstract and representational images and give surrealism the'fantastic' structur. Ideas arise from free association, subconscious, and from a deliberate urge to integrate found images, direct observation from life, and subject drawn from sources in art, literature and history. ...

Randall Fox - I am interested in making visual statements about the interaction of time, history, cultures, memory, intellect, intuitions, experiences and the spiritual, in and on the human creative process. "inherent in all manifest in the few" Born: 1960 Education: Bachelor of Science Degree, Industrial Technology (Technical Management) California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo A.S. Degree Canada Collage, Redwood City, California (General Engineering-Pre Med.) Other: Art History/Art Studies - Stanford University, Palo Alto California Collected in: United States, Holland, Norway, Puerto Rico, Germany, Mexico, England, Brazil ...

Janice Young - I work in multiple mediums. When I get an idea, I think, how can I express this visually. Sometimes the medium is the inspiration. I reuse materials from demolition, use leftovers from construction, gather raw materials from nature, and experiment with commercially produced materials. I have a drive to create. I would like what I create to provoke thought as to the beauty and importance of all life and the effect our massive appetites have on that life. ...

Susan Brannon - My photographs are simply about people: their passions, their struggles, and their lives. "I am interested in gathering the truth of events, the behind the scenes stories, rather than the mainstream headline news." The positive aspect of this work is the challenge to connect with the subject and the ability to tell the story through an image. When the connection occurs I feel that the image can humanize the subject or situation, and generate a better understanding with the viewer, the community and society. I do this by not just being a passive observer and outsider to an event, but instead working as an active and engaged participant in the lives and events I record. It is important to gain trust with the subject and environment in order to capture real rather than posed expressions or actions. I like using natural light while taking images because the shadows can be soft compared to artificial light, which can make the image somewhat harsh. I shoot raw, when developing I create a border around the image to show that the image has not been cropped or altered. The border is my signature and it provides a feeling of accomplishment to my personal ...
