Artists Describing Their Art:
Janice Young - I work in multiple mediums. When I get an idea, I think, how can I express this visually. Sometimes the medium is the inspiration. I reuse materials from demolition, use leftovers from construction, gather raw materials from nature, and experiment with commercially produced materials. I have a drive to create. I would like what I create to provoke thought as to the beauty and importance of all life and the effect our massive appetites have on that life. ...
Ken Hillberry - In art and in life, dynamics of balance, integrity and tolerant interaction of all elements or participants ought to be see, experienced and maintained. At the same time, the challenge of affecting this balance is creatively encountering all changes and adapt accordingly. For some, the destination or pre-determined outcomes are sought more often than not. Then there are some who savor the journey, thus witnessing and enjoying developments along the way. I fall into the latter category. It's like watching the film develop in a darkroom. the image takes form a little at a time right before my eyes. The creative process, for me, is void of pressure and timeless. The ability and practice and discipline are central in my approach. My creative intent is to engage a viewer in thought and emotion, as well as, with their eyes. Using imagination, retrospect or model, my range of composition can be conceptual, perhaps impressionistic or abstract in application, but always developed to evoke an awareness and appreciation for the relative conditions in life experience and art form as I incisively or playfully interpret my experiences along the way. ...
David Rocky Aguirre - ************** To me, Art seems to be a universal language. It can be used to portray something beautiful and uplifting, or to portray a tragedy to motivate and move people to act. To motivate them to help in some way as in Picasso's "Guernica 1937". I have a wide range in creative interests, from most forms of painting- oil to watercolor and on to print forms, sculpture, photography, film and computer animation. Contact me for any creative projects you may have....
Michelle Waters - My art fuses my love for animals, concern about the welfare of the planet and twisted sense of humor. I call my work "environmental surrealism". Influences include kitschy portrayals of animals from mass-marketed popular culture, the nightmarish imagery of Hieronymus Bosch, Beatrix Potter, Maurice Sendak, the writings of Edward Abbey, and my work as a wildlife rehabilitator. My "religious animals" paintings are a reaction to the ubiquitous fundamentalist religion in America as well as the idea propounded by most organized religions that animals have no souls. Some of my animal characters have founded their own religion, complete with nuns, popes and televangelists. My environmentally-themed paintings feature naughty animals having fun turning our superiority on its head by demolishing industrial objects. Grizzly bears with jackhammers "restoring" a freeway, a mountain lion with an acetylene torch decommissioning a bulldozer, arctic wildlife laying waste to a Hummer dealership and animals tearing down billboards for housing developments are some of the characters who populate my paintings. I also enjoy the disquieting effect of combining body parts from different species. As someone who works with small animals I often ponder the evolutionary process - why creatures look the way they do. Questions as what ...

Tia Bley - Painting: My recent work, paintings on canvas with Acrylic paint, is done in a Semiabstract-Style, my way to express feelings and ideas about anything that touches me: a notion, a situation, a vision, places, people, landscapes, dreams, tension, conflicts etc. etc. In order to express my feelings i often use strong, vivid colors and color contrasts as well as simplified, bizarre forms. Often my paintings show a kind of a phantastic landscape or remnants of a landscape. Plastic Plankton Installation: Another kind of my work are recycling-art installations made from plastic waste. Plastic bottles, littering beaches or swimming in the water, inspired my imagination and I started experimenting with the material. In the beginning I found it not very enticing and somewhat unruly. However, after some time of experimenting by cutting, assembling, connecting, folding, molding etc.I liked to work with the PET-material. One day I observed its shadows cast on the wall when exposed to the sunlight. I was fascinated by the sight and imagined to form the plastic, making it look like fragile glass membranes that resembled organic forms. If I could imitate the forming process of glass by heating the plastic that would be ...
Tiger Lily Jones - I create and offer my artwork to help bring nature indoors with a purpose to elevate and inspire the viewer. Nature is so creative and has the power of beauty and the power of transformation be it to calm or to excite. The effect nature has on us humans is so profound, even a photograph or painting of nature holds that power and I desire that my artwork expresses nature's beauty and power and that it will inspire emotion and renew the viewer's energy and purpose and good health. I believe my artwork will transform the space in which it hangs to benefit the viewer - to elevate your spirit, please your senses, renew your purpose, and support your soul. Nature inspires me. Color inspires me as it easily helps to express our emotional tones and dreams and is inseparable from nature. Color is nature's expression of infinite possibility and ingenuity. My photographs are not meant to be realistic.. They represent my memories of experiencing a particular natural place and have a dreamlike quality that tells the story of that experience; how the place affected me, transformed me, inspired me and I hope in turn, does the same ...
