Artists Describing Their Art:
Angela Treat Lyon - I make art because I must. It's a cellular need. It's a compulsion, an addiction, a Beingness I cannot deny. Simply put: Art is Spirit moving through any particular medium, whether it be stone, music, cooking, dance, speech, or whatever. Create an intention, take action, results follow, fine or not. Images dwell within me getting fat and juicy until they just simply will not allow me to sit on them one more minute. Many many nights I'll wake up with designs in my head, all clamoring to come out at once, and I'll have to get up and draw furiously till they're out and happy. When I was very young, I made a pact with myself not to do any artwork that depicts pain and suffering - why paint that when we see so much of it all around us, every day? What I wanted to see and surround myself with was expressions of the feeling I had in my heart about how I felt it could be, and really is, on levels we don't normally think about or have visual access to during the glaring light of day. I want my work to do ...
Bonnie Rannald - Science and art have always been my two favorite subjects and photography became the medium through which my fervor for each could be expressed. At an early age I was intrigued by nature and with my first camera, a Kodak Instamatic, I would explore the outdoors around Augusta, Georgia, where I grew up. Upon discovering the Southwestern Desert, a passion grew to record on film the wonders and beauty that I found. Each day during my travels throughout the Southwestern United States, I am taken on a sensory rich drama that begins with the opening curtain of the sun's first light, to the finale of nightfall. With my Nikon and tripod, my goal is to recreate the scene as it appears in nature, to preserve in a photographic image the awesome, yet simplistic beauty of the scene that waits around a bend or over a hill. Sometimes it is a colorful landscape, and many times I am allowed in the presence of the numerous creatures that adapt to life in the desert. Bonnie's Mission For almost 2 decades as a professional photographer, Bonnie has strived to capture on film and now digitally the beauty that she has encountered...
Herbert Bennett - When works are presented without sharing their deeper mysteries and secrets, they seem to get lost. The digital images I produce are a process of what I call distilling complex images and color patterns from totally chaotic,'abstract' mono-printed acrylic paintings. Going into the'subconscious image potential' of a subatomic, much deeper image realm lies a world that defies but still complements the conscious ART-iculation of our binary brain's limited potential. Mathematical and scientific principles abound here and are brought to the surface to create the expressions we call ART. The A-ability to R-restructure T-truth. New truths(paradigms) are then created from chaos to new realities for us to be inspired(in-the-spirit)and to be enjoyed. Herb...
Ronald Lunn - As an artist, the art I create is something that doesnaEURtmt have a simple definition. My artwork is about personal growth, I constantly strive to evolve and improve my techniques. I enjoy creating each painting or drawing to visually speak to me and the viewer, tell a story, bring up a memory, or have a pleasing memorable image that feeds the vieweraEURtms heart and soul. I wish for that my artwork may continue leaving a lasting impression, to hopefully uplift and inspire everyone to experience those same emotions, pursue their own dreams and bring refreshment into their life, to see the beauty that exists around all of us. I cherish the feeling that art can be fun, it makes me smile and I still get such a sense of satisfaction from people whether negative or positive. I love what I do and am extremely passionate about the arts. ...
Laura Imhoff - My name is Laura Imhoff and I am the owner and photographer of Perception Studio. I graduated magna cum laude from the Myers School of Art, University of Akron in 2006 with a BFA in photography, and minors in painting, art history, and professional photography. While in school, my goal was to practice as many disciplines and approaches to art as possible so that I could gain a true understanding of what it meant to be an artist. But what did that require? It meant, "eat, breathe, and sleep" art. So, that is exactly what I did. While my classes offered technical advice for each discipline I tried, I learned the most from the artists of past decades and my colleagues. Sharing my life and art with them, and vice versa, showed me a world of possibilities and gave me a real appreciation for art in all its forms (and people, too). I decided that art school really wasn't about learning how to BE an artist, but instead about how to defend why YOU are an artist. Being an artist isn't about being techinically the best, which is what I had always strived for...its about the ideas ...
