Artists Describing Their Art:
Ivan Trollip - After completing High School I was called up to do my compulsary military training for 2 years. When this was done I found employment as a visual merchandiser for a couple of years at a chain of depatmental stores.I then went freelance and specialised in ladies fashion and this lasted another few years.I then got involved with garden landscaping that resulted in my own landscape bussiness for the next few years until 1988 when I attended an art coarse with a leading Artist in South Afica at the time. This was life changing for me.From my earliest recolections I have always been drawing and painting and I knew this is what I am supposed to do.IN 1999 I closed my landscaping bussinss and I have been painting ever scince.I tend to paint in series and prefer to spend a lot of time with each painting I create.I try as best I can to be in my Studio every day from Monday trough to Friday for an average of about 5-8 hours.Somehow there is alays something that needs doing. For me the most important thing is getting started once you begin working the ...
Jacqueline Rudolph - The Work In Silence there is eloquence. That is what Jacqueline Rudolph's images and figurative sculpture convey. Jacqueline's creations possess an ethereal presence the rejects all pretence and convention so that the experience is on of pure connection. The essence of the soul emerges through her prolific creative process, transforming the work into an emanation of power and beauty. "My work is my life, my purpose, my obligation, my responsibility and most of all my voice, a voice that wants and needs to be heard. My passion is inspired by an embodiment of a dream, where we embrace our collective identity and emerge as a people united in compassion, harmony and peace. My intent is to ignite the beauty of diversity and inspire to embrace the power of our connection. I envision a world that embodies acceptance, respect and celebration, a world that is blind to race, class, religion and gender, a world that is one." -Jacqueline Rudolph ...
Marybeth Drake - I make my art from dreams( including daydreams),wordplay, and visions. I prefer 3-dimensional assemblage pieces and collect man-made and natural materials, junk, and even furniture everywhere I go. I like making art from recylced and cast off items. I am a true pack rat. Recently I picked up an old skill--sewing--and have started designing some funky dresses made of combined fabrics and trims from vintage and gently used clothing. I love the stalwart spirits of trees through all seasons. I enjoy making sculpture and collage that gives trees personality with facial expressions and gestures. When people tell me they love my work, I say it isn't work,it is play. I teach writing classes and try to bring my creativity to class to inspire students to think outside their personal boxes....
L Gonzalez - I draw whenever the urge hits me. When moments of quiet descend upon me, I find a bit of digital fingerpainting eases any mood. My current artistic endeavors are digitally oriented. I find that digital media makes the creation process for an artist that much easier. I started with traditional media but found myself draw in by the ease of digital art. I use a number of software to create my works. Most of the works on this site were created with "Expression" by Creature house. It's a versatile illustration program. I also use Bryce 4 for 3D rendering, Adobe Photoshop (I have 6.0) and Painter Classic. The latter is a very nice software that allows you to fake oil painting, watercolor and other traditional media. It's very handy for practicing at traditional arts w/o the messy clean up and hassles. I've also begun using Terragen for 3D scenery. If not for the game Myst, I probably never would have attempted digital art. It was my interest in the creation of the game Myst that peaked my interest in digital art. With the help of friends and acquaintances online who were also intrigued with digital ...
Sandi Carpenter - Due to my endless curiosity and wide range of interests, my work has evolved over the years. Just as a musician would change instruments to perfect the mood and rhythm created, I enjoy moving from one medium to another, be it French dyes on silk, watercolor or acrylic. I am always hopeful that the magic I feel in creating these images will be felt by the viewer with similar intensity. I believe it is only then that art really lives....
Hiroko Sakai - I was born in a small town of northern Kyushu island of Japan in early Spring. I was a shy kid. I liked looking for fairies in grass and reading adventure stories from my gigantic book case. My parents were great patrons of cultures and art and made sure I had many opportunities to grow artistically. It seemed like I have been painting and drawing from my first breath. My school note books are filled with drawings. My professional art career started in the graphic arts field in Fukuoka, Japan in the early 1990s. After graduating from Seinan Gakuin University with a BA degree in French and Nihon interior design school with a BA degree in design and rendering, I founded Atelier Yume-Tsumugi Ltd. I operated that studio successfully for 5 years. I emphasized working on a variety of projects with varying requirements rather than a distinct style. Many of my works are displayed in hospital lobbies, corporate offices, and commercial building entrances in Japan. In 1998, I broadened the scope of my endeavors to include projects in the United States. In the US, I decided to start concentrate on oil painting. I had always wanted to paint with...
Philip Goodrich - I strive to create lasting images that transcend trends. I want to perpetually travel the earth in search of perfect waves for surfing, and beautiful subjects to immortalize in my paintings. When I push the limits of my physical body, it releases my mind to relive incredible moments of my life. As I stand and draw, these memories guide my hand and I begin to groove and flow....
