Artists Describing Their Art:

Debbi Chan - I am going to do an updated artist's statement. But until I submit it you have a short temporary one. As an artist I an fullfilled and contend. But at the same time I seek more , absorb more, and enjoy more. Art fills and fullfills me..I am always being an artist. My eyes see art always. This is not a hobby that I partake of when time suits. Art feeds me. Art consoles me. And being prolific it also takes my time. And for this I am thankful that i listened to my inner self. I am thankful for a following that grows by the minute. I enjoy you enjoying my portfolio. I also have come to realize that the coined phrase "starving artist" is a reality for some of us. But if you take another quote, my own , you will see that starving and rich pertain to material $. because of you the viewers , and because art is my life and my passion I can truly say that I AM RICH.. RICH WITH NO MONEY... and I can also say with truth that I am happy. I chose the path that allowed this rich life. There will continue ...

Mary Eiland - Nature slays me. I am so amazed at how perfect and beautiful it is. My art has been influenced more by nature than anything else in the world. I was lucky enough to grow up "in the sticks" so that my everyday childhood was filled with fishing for crayfish in the creek and playing with tadpoles, frogs and salamanders out of the pond. I also trapped and raised raccoons and opossums. I collected weeds and stones because I loved the textures and colors. I began drawing from nature at a very young age and never lost interest. As an adult I began to be very interested in anything Chinese. Their appreciation and respect for nature in art drew me to study traditional Chinese brush paintings for many years. I had some exceptional brush teachers like Kwok Kay and Alice Choey and Michael and Sarina Poon. The work I do now combines both eastern and western techniques....

Win Peterman - Artist Statement "Alice in Wonderland" as a child that is how I felt looking at the drawings, paintings and sculpture in my Uncle's shop. When I become absorbed in creating, the same wondrous childhood feeling - my "magic moment" takes over. Like Alice, I am propelled along the path, capturing unexpected delights. My goal is to spark the "magic moment" feeling in those viewing my art by pulling them in-capturing their minds, hearts and emotions. I grew up surrounded by nature in the Appalachian Mountains of Pennsylvania. When I was 8 years old I experienced an overwhelming need to capture the image of a deer. Only after I drew the deer did the "feeling" recede. I can still see the deer as if the incident happened yesterday. That awakening, so hard to describe, lives within me and I call it my "magic moment". My inspiration comes from the world around me. Nothing gives me more delight than to capture a "magic moment" and find that people viewing my art experience a similar feeling. A teacher once told me that most people are either two dimensional or three dimensional. She said I was both, which was very unusual. I find ...

C. A. Hoffman - For me, my artwork is very personal. It reflects a lot about how I am feeling at any given time and place. I feel that art has to be on this personal level to completely capture how the artist is feeling daily, or trying to convey a certain thought or emotion at that particular moment. We all, at one time or another try to express our thoughts or ideas, whether it is to others or just to ourselves, by words, actions, ideas or pictures. If we are sucessful in this attempt, I think it shows through in our everyday work or art. I believe that one is either born to create art naturally or by learning. For me, I feel that I was born with this wonderful gift, and I try to improve upon it every day. In my photos and art, I hope to show how everyday objects and nature can capture our imaginations and feelings. Sometimes I work with an image to improve it, inhance it, or just to fuel the imagination. I truly hope this shows in all of my art. ...

Bernadette Wulf - WulfWorks Visionary Art Gallery - Bridging the Worlds of Earth & Spirit Our ancestors began creating art thousands of years ago to shift consciousness toward well-being and prosperity. Through art they could relay messages from the Otherworlds, envision abundance of crops, insure harmony with the environment, and commune with their gods. Art in its highest form still maintains this original purpose. Through the arts, we share our visions of what lies within the sacred space of our dreams. Thus we shape our personal and collective future. Art is a bridge between worlds and a doorway to other dimensions of reality. Bernadette Wulf WulfWorks.net ...

Kara Omalley - The ancient art of mosaic made brilliant and life like! I focus my work almost entirely on fish and birds as they are always brilliant sources of subjects. Please contact me if you are interested in learning more about anything you see here....

Amycohen Banker - I work in a variety of mediums including oils, acrylics, watercolors, mixed, multimedia on visual,flash,canvas,paper,wood...all sizes...commissions,installations,portraits, theatre etc. inspired by fairytales, poetry, essays, opera, rock, travel etc. I have been resolving styles and finding my voice for over twenty years and have developed something that is part abstract expressionism and part photographic, maybe an eclectic style that coordinates and mediates. I love Matisse, Gris,Picasso,Miro, DeKooning, and modern art like Hesse, Bourgeoise,Gatten....

Walt Hug - Hello! Thanks for visiting... I am finally doing something about all of the images and photographs I have taken over the past 30+ years: As a working photographer since the 1970's (I have worked as a Medical Photogpher, Multi-Image Photographer and for 25 years Senior Photographer & Manager of Photographic Services for a large phaarmaceutical company), I never had the time - or put the time and energy- into doing anything with my own personal images - until now. So I am doing high-res scans of many older slides and negs and also printing many newer digital images too from recent travels. The images speak for themselves...You will see many landscapes, portraits, architecture shots and nature too...some in their original form and some digitally enhanced, etc. The print sizes listed are as they are presently printed, but other sizes can also be made with adjusted prices - just let me know. Feedback is always welcome! Cheers, Walt...

Tina Newlove - My new paintings of crowds and individuals are based on relationship both intimate and distant. Paintings of claustrophobic city settings and cutout solitary figures are caught in moments of contemplation, anxiety or in mid-conversation with unseen counterparts. These works play with vulnerability of the individual in city or intimate home-life situations. More and more I notice the patterns around me shaping my world and making everything concrete. The weave in the fan, the stitching on the organ, the bowl of apples, the steady chug of the dishwasher and Tekno music thumping away in the background all contribute to my art-making practice. Bamboo sticks and good luck signs, the sun and the moon every day, the books on the shelves, flowers from the market on Saturday, city grids and stop lights, past-present-future, past-present-future, A-L, M-Z, Revolution/Revelation, life cycles, death cycles, wash cycles these are the patterns I muse over and record. Sometimes I can see the big picture and sometimes everything revolves around the smallest details like feeding the fish, dotting orange paint and remembering to take my pill. I paint mainly in oils on wood, canvas and paper. I assemble ...

Isolde Krams - For most of her artistic career, Isolde Krams has been working from a feminist perspective. Now her focus has shifted to a concern for the preservation of nature, animals and the earth. Her strong personal interest in conservation and environmental issues has resulted in the use of environmentally sound materials and found objects. They vary from rubber to her dog's combed excess fur and recycled shopping bags. In Unfamiliar Turf, for instance, an abandoned garden umbrella was used to fashion the elephant's tusks. Krams has devised a technique in which she uses rubber latex to give her sculptures a skin-like quality. Works made from this material are soft, light, tactile and psychologically charged. These metamorphosed images use wit and irony to challenge and expand the potential of the three dimensional form. At present, she is working on a series of over life-sized fish that have been taken out of their natural environment and are bound and gagged. These fish are "out of water", symbolising man's misappropriation, pillaging and even misunderstanding of nature. One of these fish was recently purchased by the Oliewenhuis Art Museum and another, Out of Water, by the Absa Bank Gallery. In ...

L Gonzalez - I draw whenever the urge hits me. When moments of quiet descend upon me, I find a bit of digital fingerpainting eases any mood. My current artistic endeavors are digitally oriented. I find that digital media makes the creation process for an artist that much easier. I started with traditional media but found myself draw in by the ease of digital art. I use a number of software to create my works. Most of the works on this site were created with "Expression" by Creature house. It's a versatile illustration program. I also use Bryce 4 for 3D rendering, Adobe Photoshop (I have 6.0) and Painter Classic. The latter is a very nice software that allows you to fake oil painting, watercolor and other traditional media. It's very handy for practicing at traditional arts w/o the messy clean up and hassles. I've also begun using Terragen for 3D scenery. If not for the game Myst, I probably never would have attempted digital art. It was my interest in the creation of the game Myst that peaked my interest in digital art. With the help of friends and acquaintances online who were also intrigued with digital ...
