  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Wanda Torres - Wanda Torres was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She majored in painting and illustration at the Columbus College of Art & Design, in Ohio. Wanda has been an art teacher, freelance illustrator and exhibiting artist. After receiving the Alfonso Arana Foundation grant for a artist residency in Paris, she established her studio in that city. Caren Keyser - My expressionist paintings are done using an intuitive process. I begin with the paint and then allow the paint and my subconscious to lead me to the subject matter. Exciting interactions between colors evolve from brushwork, pouring, glazing, spraying and other techniques. I strive to show the essence of the subject rather than paint an overly realistic image. I never know what I will find next in my work. I hope it will be dramatic and emotional. Note that the paintings are not framed. ------------------------------------- I began painting professionally in 1977 after studying art at Florida Atlantic University. There I explored the many styles and techniques available to the acrylic painter. My first photo-realism style piece was created while attending FAU. I knew from that moment that realistic nature scenes would be my style of choice. This remained my theme and style until after 2005. As time has passed my work has changed and become more creative in its processes. Color is still the dominant feature in my work. As my focus has shifted toward expressionism I stored my realism pieces. The originals of many of them are still available for purchase and are included in my inventory here at ...

Durre Waseem - Durre Waseem of Corona, a native of Pakistan, has a Master of Fine Arts degree from Punjab University and taught for 10 years at various colleges in Pakistan. Durre moved to the United States in 2001 and became a full time painter. She paints portraits and plein air in oils, pastels, watercolor, ink, and acrylics and captures the local colour of both the people and the place of wherever she may be. Her bold, colorful brushwork and loose impressionistic style effectively capture the energy and feeling of her subject and establishes a direct line of communication with the viewer. Her inspiration is usually an ordinary object, how its identity is defined by its environment, and how it becomes apart of its surroundings. Durre has participated in many national and international exhibitions both in Pakistan and the U.S. ...

Connie Chadwell - I have always loved to draw the face and figure. If I'm not actually drawing from the posed model or sketching people going about their everyday lives, I'm probably thinking about it. I seldom miss an opportunity to draw or paint from life and I strive every day to capture not just a likeness of my subjects, but also the more elusive qualities of spirit, mood and emotion. ...

Martin Beck - Working from life and in the immediacy of the sitteraEURtms presence helps maintain a connection to real life at a time when digital life can be overwhelming. In this way, life drawing is about the artist maintaining human interaction. In presenting themselves to the world the sitter collaborates in this process as an active participant. This collaboration now occurs at a troubling and turbulent time. Fact, if not truth itself, is under siege. By working from life, the sitter and artist are the revealing truth of a specific time, place and act. This cannot be faked the finished work is an unmediated artifact of the act. Rather than think of these as portraits of people, for me these are portraits of authentic moments....

George Grant - In my works I try to mold invisible ideas into visible forms. Merging of the invisible and visible in surreal themes and objects, or in coded geometrical shapes in my art is the way I establish the purpose of breaking through the conventional statuses of material life, into the dream world of human subconscious, where the infinite universes are hiding. So the objects and beings in my works are often appearing as symbols pointing to that which can hardly be talked about in words, allowing the viewer to get the hunch on deeper non-verbal level. Apart of surrealism, abstraction and abstract expressionism, my second fav is a realistic classic painting, where I endeavor to follow the principles and techniques of Renaissance artists. ...

Jane Jaskevich - Jane Jaskevich Artist Statement Jaskevich is a carver of dreams in stone. Her mythical figures borrow elements from ancient cultures. Synthia Saint James - "Painting, for me, is like a much needed breath of fresh air. Something very necessary for my health and happiness. But also something that I love sharing. My paintings, to me, are like my children, each and every one, and I love knowing that they are going into homes, offices and public places where they can bring feelings of joy and warmth to others. I paint in warm, bright and embracing colors that, I have been told, have great healing powers, or just plain make people of all ages feel good. Now that's an added blessing that I couldn't have imagined. Painting, for me, is like a much needed breath of fresh air."...
