  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Wanda Torres - Wanda Torres was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She majored in painting and illustration at the Columbus College of Art & Design, in Ohio. Caren Keyser - My expressionist paintings are done using an intuitive process. I begin with the paint and then allow the paint and my subconscious to lead me to the subject matter. Exciting interactions between colors evolve from brushwork, pouring, glazing, spraying and other techniques. I strive to show the essence of the subject rather than paint an overly realistic image. I never know what I will find next in my work. I hope it will be dramatic and emotional. Note that the paintings are not framed. ------------------------------------- I began painting professionally in 1977 after studying art at Florida Atlantic University. There I explored the many styles and techniques available to the acrylic painter. My first photo-realism style piece was created while attending FAU. I knew from that moment that realistic nature scenes would be my style of choice. This remained my theme and style until after 2005. As time has passed my work has changed and become more creative in its processes. Color is still the dominant feature in my work. As my focus has shifted toward expressionism I stored my realism pieces. The originals of many of them are still available for purchase and are included in my inventory here at ...

Durre Waseem - Durre Waseem of Corona, a native of Pakistan, has a Master of Fine Arts degree from Punjab University and taught for 10 years at various colleges in Pakistan. Durre moved to the United States in 2001 and became a full time painter. She paints portraits and plein air in oils, pastels, watercolor, ink, and acrylics and captures the local colour of both the people and the place of wherever she may be. Her bold, colorful brushwork and loose impressionistic style effectively capture the energy and feeling of her subject and establishes a direct line of communication with the viewer. Her inspiration is usually an ordinary object, how its identity is defined by its environment, and how it becomes apart of its surroundings. Durre has participated in many national and international exhibitions both in Pakistan and the U.S. ...

Connie Chadwell - I have always loved to draw the face and figure. If I'm not actually drawing from the posed model or sketching people going about their everyday lives, I'm probably thinking about it. I seldom miss an opportunity to draw or paint from life and I strive every day to capture not just a likeness of my subjects, but also the more elusive qualities of spirit, mood and emotion. ...

Jane Jaskevich - Jane Jaskevich Artist Statement Jaskevich is a carver of dreams in stone. Her mythical figures borrow elements from ancient cultures. Yves Goyatton - My current body of work represents my fascination with the mystery of abstract shapes and their juxtaposition with human form.A My work has taken this concept most literally by combining the human form and the abstracted shapes of modern landscapes. aEUR"I am a process-oriented artist. The process is what drives my work from one piece to the next. I am constantly exploring my personal boundaries. I am inspired by all the steps in which art is made I am not afraid to face the difficulties the process requires of myself, so long as I continue to learn and grow from it.A The process allows me to conquer problems these challenges allow new points of departure for the next works. aEUR"I enjoy composing in a fusion between these two elements. I conceive my workA primarily as abstract with anthropomorphic elements.A It is important for me to begin with an idea, but remain malleable to the end result. It is most important to me that the piece reflects a refined aesthetic, which I can only describe when I am visually satisfied. This becomes my new boundary for the next work to exceed what I have done before without duplication. aEUR"The work ...

Yves Goyatton - Darren Baker - Profile Royal Artist &...

Darren Baker - Peter Dunckelmann - PDarts is a Melbourne-based creative studio that grew up on a well-known image editing software and uses it in all of its work. Driven and motivated to find creative outcomes, we use the computer as a tool and are comfortable working on it like a painter using a brush, for instance, finding inspiration through experimenting, which fosters the creation of new forms. Without fear of rules, conventions, or technical limitations, we mix different techniques and visual influences into our work. In our visual expression we love finding new ways to make images and for unexpected things to happen. We have a liking for abstract forms non-objective compositions and try to explore a lot more with colour. Usually what we have been doing so far, we just sit there layering images and see what comes out of it something that is completely unplanned. That is where we find that potential to grow and move forward in ways we didnt plan. The creative process itself is an experiment, becoming creative about the creation....

Thor-Leif Strindberg - During the last years, I have moved more and more towards the abstract art. When searching for new roads in a strange territory, you always make new discoveries, and I have found a mode of expression that enables me to tell the observer a lot more than by depicting nature and the human form. A distinct, detailed subject can easily become an obstacle to communication by prevailing in the eyes of the beholder. In my abstract paintings I can transform thoughts and impressions directly into colors and shades, textures and brush strokes, like grooves on an old record. Neither do the paintings carry any titles, since I believe that this might limit the experience, because the beholder would consciously or unconsciously look for definite, well known shapes in the picture. So when something is depicted in my paintings, it is always something very simple. Like bowls. And cups. And plates. Plain and ordinary things that we all recognize - things that can easily give up their natural roles as utility goods and turn into picture elements with a new purpose and function as carriers and conveyors of memories, dreams, feelings. People often ask me about the texts in my paintings. The ...
