  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Pramod Apet - My name is Pramod Apet and I believe myself to be a very expressive person. I realized it very early in my life that painting was something that made me happy. It was actually me and therefore wen I decided to take painting as a career, I joined Abhinavkala Mahavidyala in Pune which is where I learnt the basics of my profession. After that I joined the very well known J. J. School of Arts in Mumbai, where I was groomed and that was the time when I transformed into an Artist. I love to spread happiness with my paintings and believe that if we set a happy atmosphere around us, it can be done through beautiful paintings. In my works, one can generally find jolly, loving and happy kids. Specially, the Brahmin boys that were seen during the traditional educational system of our Indian people, i.e., Gurukul system, could be generally seen through my works. I have relied on using acrylic colors in my art forms which help me in depicting the various expressions of my subjects very effectively. With the help of these, I have been able to show the kids in various acts of life, showing ...

Joyce Owens - I am a figurative artist. The mask imagery in my work serves as a conduit into the depths of identity, ethnicity, humanity and multiplicity in an attempt to expose racial stereotypes. I use folded and draped canvas to reflect the inevitable wrinkles in life. I work with weathered wood and multi-planed canvas to create constructions that will lead the eye to look at human imperfection as a natural and positive force. Another choice I have made is framing my work to place in context the African-American presence within the larger world, to create images that will inspire the viewer to re-evaluate limited perceptions of African-Americans. To expand our senses, aesthetics and perspectives so that we might see more than the narrow picture, and learn to look and think outside our boxes, is an important goal. My work is presented as a means by which we are able to examine and place into perspective our differences and similarities, within and outside of our immediate and superficial orientations, and appreciate how variety enriches us. Even as progress comes slowly and we have our first bi-racial president, we clearly see there is an insistence on confusing race as ...

Connie Chadwell - I have always loved to draw the face and figure. If I'm not actually drawing from the posed model or sketching people going about their everyday lives, I'm probably thinking about it. I seldom miss an opportunity to draw or paint from life and I strive every day to capture not just a likeness of my subjects, but also the more elusive qualities of spirit, mood and emotion. ...

Michael Weatherly - Art speaks to anyone. It can lift your spirits, provoke your thoughts and calm your emotions. A continuing desire to grow and express has driven my creation of original works - The past and the present connect. Creating a work of art is, having traveled various roads through experimentation until reaching the culmination of an organic art form implementing abstract-figurative elements that emphasize textures and non-conventional forms. It is through experimentation and the search of new techniques that I imprint my work with imagery that reminds us of the natural world. For me, creating is a liberating experience - I am always in a happy state even during the times when I struggle with the process. The creative journey starts with a concept - it's just me and the blank canvas, paper or object...my senses awaken...the process is a thrill ...I progress through stages...it becomes. Michael J Weatherly ...

Niloufer Wadia - There are no deep, dark secrets here, only warm, quiet moments caught from life, aiming to inspire and make you happy. Drawing ever since I can remember, in school book margins, on newspaper corners and any blank or not-so-blank surface that will accept the marks of a pen or pencil, almost invariably the doodles turned into women. A refrain I always heard growing up was, "good, but draw something besides women!" Now I wonder, "Why?!" It's what I enjoy drawing most! Though I explore various media, pencil, digital and watercolour. in these few drawings my love for the vibrancy of Acrylic paints, the human form and most especially the celebration of beauty in the female sex is obvious. An art student and an advertising professional, I have only recently re-discovered the pleasures of creating art for art's sake. My recent art a little pop-art, melding a contemporary graphic style, shape and vibrancy, with Indian themes, settings and patterns. Shapes are large, bold and in your face, themes are warm and earthy. The paintings epitomize hope, laughter and sensuality; the eyes of my figures hypnotize, the lines and the curves draw you into this celebration...

Bryce Brown - Brown focuses on simple moments of New Zealand life and reflects these scenes through his paintings with an earthy quality. i?1/2I feel compelled to make figurative paintings, to capture subtle movement and gestures and to evoke positive emotion through certain poise. I am always looking for images and movement to find strong line, usually working the image to a point where I have simplified and heightened the figure at the same time.i?1/2 Brown has paintings in collections in New Zealand, Australia, Europe and the USA. Visit www.brycebrownart.com for more information. ...

Synthia Saintjames - "Painting, for me, is like a much needed breath of fresh air. Something very necessary for my health and happiness. But also something that I love sharing. My paintings, to me, are like my children, each and every one, and I love knowing that they are going into homes, offices and public places where they can bring feelings of joy and warmth to others. I paint in warm, bright and embracing colors that, I have been told, have great healing powers, or just plain make people of all ages feel good. Now that's an added blessing that I couldn't have imagined. Painting, for me, is like a much needed breath of fresh air."...

Ruben Miranda - As I see it, the human figure embodies what life is all about, in more than the physical plane. It is the symbolic image of existence. Through the years, my morphic re-invention of the human figure has given meaning to the search for my own pictorial language. The faces, warriors, torsos and other images in my artwork reveal the complexity of my spirit....

Hilary Pollock - When contemplating creativity, I admit to being impressed by the draftsmanship of Gustav Klimt, the audacity and creativity of Picasso and the fortitude of Artemisia Gentileschi and many other female artists. The "Lady and the Unicorn" tapestries in Paris move me greatly for their colour and their detail in particular. I have my own style and language which has developed over the years from experimentation with a variety of mediums and different approaches to my subject matter. Some things become favourites, contributing to a personal language and the sheer pleasure of creating. The process is the important thing. Creativity for the visual artist is all about struggle, excitement and energy....

Jan Chlpka - Jan Chlpka - naive imaginism The painter from Hlozany (Vojvodina, Serbia) Jan Chlpka (1965) belongs to our best and most original painters of naive art today. To poetics of inset imaginism tied him his increased imagination. As a result such an orientation we can find a reduced space of painting without any unnecessary details and expressed expressive stylization of shapes. He also uses colors in accordance with inter and not mimetic meaning. The most frequent themes of his painting creation are animals, which is natural while his occupation is veterinary surgeon. Here we can notice other rare component of painter's creation - humor. Vladimir Valentik, art historian...

Milutin Obradovic - The persistence of time and an endless search for the explanation of transience through themes, i.e. a way called life, or searching for the essence is the top or the bottom of the same idea, message, sign, or manaEURtms fear to put it all under oneaEURtms skin and breathe with it. Art and its unfathomable distance decorated with colours, movements or tones are a way of putting a burden of subconscious questions and incomplete answers on oneaEURtms back. Answers which will only in the future find themselves in the box storing the primordial findings on purpose. My paintings of horses are mysterious and they entice you into starting the dance of fire and ice. They are in an eternal impulse which is closer to coming back than leaving. They will never lie to the observer, or try to take him/her where they have already been and where he/she used to meet them. The horses will always take them to the unfamiliar places full of hope and endless existence. They are perpetual and always self-sufficient. My art and my search for the essence we call life is actually a burden on the back of...
