  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Lia Chechelashvili - My works can be divided into three main categories: 1) White lines on dark background (executed mostly with gouache on cardboard): "Party", "Illusion", "Cube" are examples of this body of work. Human forms, their interaction, linear transformations of the objects, rhythmic play of construction - these are the main features of my work. In those compositions I used line as a minimalistic mean for delivering my thoughts and vision. 2) Oil paintings (oil on canvas/cardboard): "Red flowers", "Cup of decadence", "Green construction" are examples of my oil paintings, which are also based on human forms. Other works are abstract or semi-abstract; the examples are "Composition 6", "Composition 7", "Composition 14". In these works I try to deliver light, space and color. 3) Digitally embellished drawings (mixed media): This body of work is a natural continuation of my line-works. In 2000's, I began applying digital effects to my drawings. The idea was to enrich simple line and make it look more complex, thus through that complexity create a new kind of form. The examples of this body of work are "Radiant tango", "Lovers", "Autumn lovers". ...

Penko Platikanov - Sculpture is an act of creating art, and a philosophy on living. It is my belief that my artwork follows some means of a universal law I call "Creation and Beauty." Stated simply, there is no doubt a responsibility inherent toward created forms. It's quality, it's energy, and the messages released through my actions are expressions that I work toward being aware of. This is the first thing I concern myself with before I step into my studio and stand before the set block of clay on any given day. A quality sculpture has to be a product of spiritual, mental and technical abilities. Great works of art should possess deep roots in human spirituality, as well as depth regarding thought and feeling. Artwork can appear as fleeting inspirations or a belabored process based on the experience of the artist. In turn, if an artwork is created with the intention of lasting decades and being viewed for many generations, it has to be technologically strong and skillfully made. Important thought is the search for quality. Quality, which is proportional to the amount of effort, must be made to the best of the artist's ability. The Ancient Greeks ...

Toni Hudson - Communication through art and my essence of beauty. Capturing the shape and color is my plan every time I create a piece of art. Spontaneously maneuvering my painting tools; paper towels, over-size brushes, paint markers, and many other materials. The forms and color that miraculously come through are simply on the spot- with no planning. I want to give the viewer an experiment of exhilarating adventure, an exciting form to take in their mind to enjoy. To me is a great drama in creating a world everyday with inexhaustible energy and I paint again. The massive dark wave of depression, anxiety and confusion, that the daily stresses of life bring, suddenly stop. Painting and creating is no doubt deeply healing and rewarding. Thank you for the opportunity to share a bit of my life. CHEERS TO FREE EXPRESSION IN THE ARTS. ...

Avril Ward - Artist's statement. Creating has become an intricately woven part of my life. I must express nature, as it is my window to God. I must delight in the human body, a marvel that never ceases to amaze. I must express love and joy-this keeps them tangible in my life. I must trust my instincts and skills allowing them to lead me in the right direction. Most importantly: if my art can move a person to pause, think, smile, ponder, cry, laugh, be encouraged or give them hope, then I have served my purpose in life." Leif Peterson - Artist Statement In making artwork a part of myself, and in making that art reflect who I am, I have gone through many questions about what my senses of art and self are and should be. What makes me who I am? What do I value? What is my complexion? What drives me as a human being? These are the essential questions which I answer for myself through art. My artwork describes desire, beauty, love restrained by fear, anger, anxiety, aggression. These are the dominant forces that inhabit my psyche. As man I find beauty in the female figure. But along with desire, it invokes an uncertainty, a foreignness that brings fear and all of its inherent reactions. These conflicting emotions are who I am. And they are manifest in my work. I've struggled with the seemingly single-mindedness of my work, but I can't get away from the fact that these are the thoughts and feelings that drive me through a life which seems to lack purpose. Through my artwork, I am able to give meaning to the basic instinctual processes that course through the passages in my body and mind. My artwork is a reflection of ...

Camilo Lucarini - I born with a pencil in my hand, I started professional painting, after graduating in The Art School of Fine Arts, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I was born. In the last 25 years I have been recognized, mainly, for my wildlife paintigs, of which I have made exhibitions in Europe, North and South America. Among my clients are hunters, collectors and animal lovers....

Martinho Dias - The complexity and the multiple facets of the global world are my main fundamentals. Selecting and manipulating images, essentially from the press and popular magazines, I try to create a new suggested reality, a new narrative, open to the viewer. Resorting to the realism of the figures and the gestural abstraction, the paradox, the contrariety, the criticism or irony, what I do is unfold the reality, individual and collective, which is common to us, reconfiguring it in the plan of the canvas. Along my journey as a painter, I have also developed ways of communication with different cultures, as well as other areas, particularly the music and their players. Projects like "Written Paintings" and "Pangea" (video, currently in progress, involving entities and singers from 26 countries), they gave me the pleasure of collaboration of Kepa Junkera, Pauline Oliveros, Peter Ablinger, Gianluigi Trovesi, Robert Rich, Eurico Carrapatoso, Amelia Muge or Antonio Victorino d'Almeida, among many others. ...
