Artists Describing Their Art:

Jacob Kohn - Water Play Over the years, I have continued to explore and portray the beauty and sensuality of the natural world. I have returned time and again to the realism of nature as a subject because it provides me with a visual language that best expresses the abstract energy and emotional color that I find essential in my art. My primary visual interests are water and the phenomenal forms that reside upon and within the watery plane. I love the tension created by objects such as leaves and lily pads as they hug the surface. I am fascinated by complicated levels of space created by trees, reeds, and other plants reflected in the water from above, combined with vines, leaves, and fish as they loom just below the surface. There is a painterly quality to these constantly shifting forms that allows me to mix and blend an endless variety of invented colors that create rich and satisfying contrasts of pattern and hue. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I wish to communicate my love of place and season to my viewer. I sense that I am depicting subjects that are very familiar to my audience, calling them to witness the sublime effects...

Anna Zarshin - I put my thoughts on a canvas with no premeditated plan and directionaEUR|.. I donaEURtmt know exactly where I should write my name in order not to be spilled out. Since the earth is recently flattened, the field of human vision should be widenedaEUR|.. The line that connects our heaven and earth togetheraEUR|. We all are moving towards the same direction... and gradually join to the color of lightaEUR|.. But the humans are ejecting out of the canvas as far as the eyes can reach....

Cindy Pinnock - Artist Statement My heart goes into all that I do whether it be from cooking gourmet dishes, to 3 dimensional art works that adorn my home or to my warm embracing landscaping that surrounds my house for guests. My passion for expressing my emotions onto a blank canvas started shortly after high school and was fine-tuned with college and private classes. However, I must admit that truly being a part of nature and experiencing the great outdoors in our beautiful state have greatly deepened my passion for wildlife and nature in my work. As my tastes matured, I ventured into many different mediums such concrete, mosaic, and pencil just to name a few. Most recently, oil painting has consumed my passion for the brilliance of color and the ability of combining different techniques of brush and abstract impressionistic strokes by hand. The way I look at ordinary objects in our daily lives and make them more unique sets me apart from other artists. I donaEURtmt keep my work to simply a canvas but to the world around me, I live my creativity and have no limitations. I would welcome the opportunity to have you view my creations please ...

Austen Pinkerton - Artists Statement Austen Pinkerton If I turn my mind to it very quickly I can come up with several ideas for works aEUR|paintings, drawings, or sculptures. Sometimes ideas come to me when I least expect it, or when my mind is on other things. Ideas can be related to my current experiences, or to my feelings about things that are happening to me in my life at that particular time. Alternatively they can be related to a current interest, or something that occupies my attention at that moment, and my ideas and feelings about which Id like to share with others. A lot of my work is autobiographicalaEUR|either directly or indirectly, consciously or subconsciously. It is frequently very personal, and expresses events or circumstances or experiences in my life. I usually work in either Acrylic on Canvas, Crayon or Pastel, or both together, with Gouache, on card, Drawing in pencil, or Ink, or both, or with creating SculptureaEUR|for which I use fired artists clay. Sculpture follows a completely different set of rules and values from two-dimensional art, obviously, I think of it as Drawing in three dimensions and I take this into account when creating mine. In...

David Larkins - I've always been intrigued by the luminosity and transparencies found in watercolor and acrylic mediums. I believe an artist must experience the painting - to absorb the surroundings, the atmosphere, to have a oneness with the subject matter before the first brush stroke is applied. My style is described as "Abstract Realism" and my strength is found in the composition. I'm drawn to diverse subject matter that challenges the viewer to see abstraction in the ordinary - to meld the "real" world with the "abstract". ...

Steve Sperry - Steve Sperry Tampa, Florida - Mighty Sight Studio Engaged in Art and music from an early age, Steve has worked in a variety of mediums, and has sustained a life long creative energy. A Graduate of the International Academy of Design, he has dedicated nearly a decade to mastering the tools that enable him to create fluidly and expressively in a virtual environment. Enthralled with the freedom and malleability this technology based medium affords, he has fully embraced it as his primary means of expression. His artistic influences are many and varied, including; Andre Masson, Rene Magritte, Jackson Pollock, Kenneth Huff, and most predominately fellow Artist and friend Michael Braun. Steve's highly expressive images and use of color and form create subtle dimensions that seduce the viewer into a visual exploration. ...

Temo Svirely - Painting is not conceptual art. When someone looks at one of my paintings and asks me What did you want to say I find myself in a difficult position. That is, I've already said what I wanted to say through the medium of painting. With the help of color, rhythm and so on and to demand that I translate the language of art into the language of words is impossible, to say the least. I am an artist, not a writer , my materials are oil-paints, ink, pencils and so on, and not words. What else can I say Ideas and concepts are far from being the primary concerns of the artist. Enthusiasm for ideas not to be confused with artistic plans or intentions distracts the artist from the wealth of interrelation with the material, which itself dictates to him the right course and rewards with time and patience. Of course it is worth pondering on how to make a work more expressive, but a real artistic moment occurs when a pause arises in between thoughts. I will take the liberty of reminding you that art, a picture, can be understood by a man and influence him deeply, effortlessly ...

Deborah Paige Jackson - I love art and design in all forms and medium, in every aspect of my life. It's a part of who I am and something I can't get away from. I try to use true to life situations when possible. My favorite medium is watercolor because of the beauty of it. It seems to have a life of it's own as it flows and connects with the paper. Yet, the medium forces me to think and use extraordinary control. I am at a point in my life where the thought of art, design, and all the components involved in them consume my thinking. It shows up in my home in decorating, in my garden with landscaping, in my work, even with my family. I look forward to increasing my art presence in my portfolio here and in as many venues as possible. To all who view my work, I wish you much enjoyment. ...

Ricky Montilla - Impression plays an important role in the mode of how we perceive the things around us. Through the years, I have absorbed, reflected and explored many. My style revolve around impressionism but also moving towards realism. My favorite subjects are figures, florals, ducks, swans and lately the Japanese kois. I tried to create paintings that not only touches the eyes but moves the heart as well. I owe everything from God and my family who inspires me to radiate artistry in my work. As long as God sustains my pursuit to manifest this God-given talent in my use of colors, shapes, textures & compositions in my craft, I would continue to paint continuously to my hearts content. ...

Azhar Shemdin - I am interested in experimenting with liquid acrylic, using resist material which is anything that is placed on the surface of the painting that impedes the flow of liquid paint. When the resist is lifted, an unexpected outcome is revealed. Sometimes the outcome is not what I wanted, and I cover the surface with paint and go for a second, third or even a fourth try, until I am completely satisfied with the outcome. The end result is a wonderous world that comes from somewhere and is revealed on a canvas surface!...

John White - Having been in art and design my entire adult life, painting seemed a natural transition for me. I have had the opportunity to study under some of the most prominent plein air painters in the southwest, and living in California provides me with a wealth of beautiful places to paint in the outdoors, from the oceans to the mountains and desert. My process starts outside painting small plein air studies which I then work up in my studio to larger pieces. Working outdoors with the use of light, color and composition and painting on location is nothing short of joyous. Not a day goes by, that if I am not paintingaEUR| I wish that I were. ...
