Artists Describing Their Art:
Alan Soffer - Alan Soffer began studying sculpture and clay in 1973 transitioning to abstract painting in 1985, through a breakthrough program at Bennington College with Sandy Stone. His abstractions have been in the pursuit of the unknown, unique, and personal depths of the unconscious. Rather than confining his energies to a single medium, he sensitively chooses materials that accommodate the concepts at hand. Early constructions were in clay and found objects, then discovering printmaking and photography, which he learned on his own. Finally, focusing on painting with acrylic, oil, and wax. Encaustics allowed him to marry a sculptural component to his painterly approach, following his studies at Ringling School in 1998. The hot, pigmented wax's inherent translucency perfectly supports his vocabulary for expressing space from the microscopic to the galactic. Whatever the direction, the work is always influenced by Joseph Campbell, the noted mythologist, who Soffer considers his mentor. He organized the first national encaustic conference in the US in 2005 and continues teaching encaustic technique as well as abstract painting primarily through workshops. Major one person shows have been presented at: DCCA, Wilmington DE; Borowsky Gallery, Phila.; Rosenfeld Gallery, Phila.; Widener U., Chester PA; Atlantic City Art Center; Robert Roman ...
Elena Soroka - I am researching a womans self-awareness, formed through the prism of stereotypes and prejudices that were developed in society. I compare behavior deviation from expected patterns to a glitch effect. Glitch art opposes the digital culture promoting an ideal transmission of the image. The glitch is an inconsistency in the information expected. Social glitch is self-expression through violation of programmed standing orders. I express the glitch effect through the Central Asian ikat ornament. An ornament is a visual projection of a society. And for me personally it is endowed with special meanings because I grew up in Tashkent, and oriental ornament is part of my aesthetics. The object of my research is the criteria by which a woman compares herself with others. In my work, I reflect on the relativity of such patterns of consciousness, following which the woman accepts the roles imposed on her and agrees with the proposed assessment of her personal value. My statement accumulates my individual experience, this is the story of my search for my identity. Under the weight of preconceptions and prejudices, a woman dissolves in her encirclement. But I believe that we are not entitled to give away our values aEUR

Goksen Parlatan - As an artist, mosaic is a very practical way to express my thoughts, feelings and ideas even my hope. Pauline Allen - My name is Pauline Allen. I have been working with mosaics for over 20 years alongside my professional career. People often comment on the detail in my work and the colours. On many occasions I have been asked if I sell my work and people have been amazed when I have said no. When I reached 60 I decided to make a change to my career path and follow a long held ambition to work exclusively with mosaics. The inspiration for my artwork comes from everyday observations and my love of wildlife, trees, gardens and places of beauty in my home county of Northumberland, England. I work with a wide range of coloured ceramic tiles which enables me to express my myself through my art. Every piece of my work is different because it is hand built, detailed, colourful and evokes interest as the eye explores the hidden depths within the art. Working with mosaics is extremely time consuming art form but for me it is a labour of love. I work with mosaics almost every day in my studio and will not release any piece until I am entirely satisfied with it. With every piece of artwork I make, ...
