Artists Describing Their Art:

Darla Fisher Odjig - 7th. World Aboriginal Image Maker Vision: the belief that symbology will be a huge part of the art. That all may project a uniqueness of their Indianess through this. I promote the essence of my culture through the educating of Cultural diversity & visions through symbols. The sharing through symbology/pictorial imaging precipitates a phenomenon of altruism and healing. Guidance through mind, heart, body and spirit is essential to envisioning a holistic sense of self. In reference to Creative Extraction, expression toward the enhancing of emotion and identification of authentic values and feelings enable release and validation. Building of inner strength and outer relationships are important to communicating who we are. Reflecting on shadow imaging and of internal elements will allow for visioning and creative connectedness. Our Community includes the participating of connecting with the public through the art and its symbolic representation regarding the intergenerational affect as illustrated by symbolic historical referencing and recording. The developing of inner creativity through outer expression allows a sense of identity and connecting of 2 worlds within. Integrating Aboriginal artistic mastery with Western/European mastery as a recognized fine artistry brings a unified and elegant fusion of a unique vision of true Canadian Fine ...

Dennis Rennock - Dennis Hugh Rennock artist statement From the pure and simple clarity of vision to the intensely multifaceted and complex visual arts purpose is to stimulate individual growth in thought, perspective, wonderment and truth. Intellectual and emotional representation of line, stroke and color breathe life into the artists vision of truth, beauty, concern and or belief. Along with freedom, the artist employs a wealth of pragmatic disciplines and self-imposed principles to craft and reveal or refine a work of art. My work appeals to the general American and British audience, black and other people of color, major influences come from the mastery of Da Vinci, Escher, Thiebaud, Basquiat, Cassatt, Augusta Savage, Norman Lewis Chuck Close....

Stephen Mead - In the early 1990's Stephen Mead's poems began appearing in such journals as Onionhead, Bellowing Ark, and Invert, but upon moving to Provincetown, Mass., Stephen decided to concentrate more on visual work. It was in the year 2000, after moving back to NY, that Stephen started seeking publication again for both his writing and his art combined. Since, then, thanks to the wonders of the World Wide Web, his work has appeared internationally both in cyberspace, hard copy, and physical Gallery Space. Often the writing has appeared along side his paintings, and at other times with the text superimposed. In 2004 Stephen began experimenting even more with these poetry/art hybrids creating a series of e books, including the award winning "We Are More Than Our Wounds". From there Stephen began experimenting with his art and poems as films, at first creating slideshows with captions, and then doing his own soundtracks and voice overdubs. These DVDs are available through Indieflix.com In 2006 Stephen put this technology to use releasing a CD of poems set to music "Safe & Other Love Poems" (CDBaby.com), as well as two print editions of his image/art hybrids, "Selected Works" and "Tree ...

Nancy Bechtol - Artists explore and give the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. I visualize and think with keen beliefs and insights. Reflection of human and societal concerns which cross emotional boundaries-- communicating that which is unspoken. My traditional art foundations of drawing, painting and printmaking, evolved into video, digital photography and experimental media. I use digital photography and imaging to envision the concepts originating from the creative pulse. An individual artist explores and gives the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. Ulrich Osterloh - Born in Germany in 1969, I am an artist with a BA hons degree in Fine Art from the University of London, Goldsmiths College. I lived in London for many years 1988-2005, and am nowadays based in the Cologne Dusseldorf region of Germany. Zoraida Haibi - Zoraida Haibi Artist Statement My work is a diary or narrative of the relationships that I have with family and people closest to me. There are different components of each individual represented in the works. Use of collage and mix media, allows me to be able to put fragments of each personi?1/2s character in my artwork. Each painting is cultivated through methods of collecting memoirs and stitching them together creating a quilt of memories. Through use of vibrant colors, expressive brushstorkes, cuts in the canvases, sewing surfaces and collage, I am able to convey a medley of these visions. The awkwardness of some of my canvases reflects the indifference for traditional values that is characteristic in the Latin culture and break from the customary size and shape of the canvas. ...

Sara Molano - ara Molano began painting when, at the young age of six, her mother found her doodling on the walls of the house and quickly entered her into art classes. This was in Medellin, Colombia, where Molano was born on December 15, 1975. At 15, Molano moved to Chile's capital, Santiago, and entered the art school Abadia. She found herself in her first exposition at the Palacio de la Alhambra (Fine Arts) where her work as a young new artist was praised. Her choices then were landscapes using oil, but upon her arrival in Miami Florida three years ago, Molano discovered acrylics and has been using this medium since. With the use of acrylics, Molano also began to test herself with new techniques. She chose to paint with no relief or shadow, in a flat and static manner lending itself to her new more mature views. Her poster-like portraits of half faces are a representation of Le' humanite, or Molano's own views of the "half being." These half beings are those who are only minimally satisfied; they know themselves only on the surface and do not dare question. These half faces are dedicated to those whose obsession with ...

Maria Teresa Fernandes - Admiring Teresa's paintings we are touched by her pictorial sensitivity. Difficult task in light colors (volume and transparencies on a clear basis). Few do it due to the required dedication with pallete knife(no brush). It's painting consacrated by the love to paint. Radha Abramo(Renowned art critique)comments at Solo Exhibition Catalog at SESC Paulista in June 84 -( sent at request and reproduced in one of the pages of this site). ...

Lavih Serfaty - Lavih Serfaty is a multicultural artist. The works are on canvas, paper and aluminum. The painting are in acrilyc and water color. The latest painting are painted on aluminum with acrylic color. The use of bright and mono color is a result of a deep learning and understanding the power of the colors as it's affect people. The color can change the atmosphere of the environment, can heal our soul. The use of the right color in the right place can bring new and pure energy in our home. "I use the theories of color therapy, "feng shui" and "chakra energy" in my painting. The idea of making those painting is a result of long period of meditation and listening to music. Then I decided to paint with just one color according to state of mood I am, after I meditate. The aluminum is folded before I put the color on. When the painting is hanging on the wall, the color change as the light is changing during the day, the shade accentuate the color and change them to deep, darker or lighter. It's fill the room with bright and clear energy. The colors I choose are from ...

Cheryl Finfrock - Artist Statement Dreams inspire my work. Images ranging from public domain icons to archaic glyphs fascinate me. With high voltage colors I search for a visual language of universal archetypes. The creation and deconstruction of this language occurs through the physical act of painting. In my recent work, color, texture, and layering become the psychology of expression. Fauvism, Expressionism, Abstract Expressionism, and Carl Jung influence me. Specific influences are Edvard Munch, James Ensor, Paul Klee, Georges Rouault, Rainer Fetting, the CoBra painters and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Cheryl Finfrock ...

Christine Lytwynczuk - Christine's paintings are about the human experience: relationships, emotions and introspection. She strives to evoke the feelings of empathy, hope, serenity and comfort through her work. Her paintings have a commanding presence, yet are quiet and exude a sense of intimacy. To be in a room with one of her paintings is like being in the presence of a close friend. Christine often paints children from different cultures, for children experience the same thoughts, fears, hopes and aspirations as adults, but they do not have emotional masks to hide behind. She paints from different cultures to highlight our inner similarities and because she is enthralled with the diverse ornamentation and design found throughout all lands. She feels that cultural decoration adds richness and beauty to life, especially when harmonized with the native landscape. Christine Lytwynczuk was born in Tucson, AZ in 1974. She spent most of her formative years, and as much time as possible now, in the Sonoran Desert. Her love of the desert and nature is revealed in many of her paintings. For twelve years she attended an open-classroom school where she had unlimited access to art materials. During high school she spent a summer in ...

Mary White - I have been a practicing illustrator and graphic designer for more than 25 years. The majority of my work is executed with traditional mediums -- but lately, I have begun introducing some digital compliments to the imagery. Thematically, I produce work for both commercial and editorial purposes. I prefer the editorial work and the challenges that are most often presented in attempting to successfully execute imagery to compliment abstract concepts. Please do not hesitate to contact me for a quote or to discuss a possible project. Thank you for looking....

Van Hong Nguyen - Painting is a powerful language in which I express myself and communicate. The message within each painting is an illustrated element or aspect of my life. I paint the moments that capture me, the beautiful and the painful for the exquisiteness of any moment can make me cry, and then I paint. Sketching and drawing are tools of my vocabulary with which I discover and reveal my thoughts and feelings, and when I forget that I am making art, when I am purely communicating, I am free. ...

Van Hong Nguyen - Margaret Stone - Here we are, physically cemented to the earth by gravity. But - our imaginations stretch and soar, taking us beyond our planet and connecting us with far places in the universe. Being part of this, do we indeed live and bloom in a cosmic garden? Ah, perhaps so. I am exploring this connection in my new artwork....

Debra Reilly - Debra likes to dabble in art since she was a toddler. She works in pastel, oil paint, digital, pencil, ink and acrylic paint. She is independent and paints on and off and is not represented by any gallery, and she has not exhibited in a long time but is currently reviewing possible representation and exhibits for 2019....

Tamara Albaitis - Artist Statement I create objects, sounds and installations that are derived from observations in daily life. I'm particularly interested in daily rituals, routines, and everyday objects, with emphasis on temporal progression. Naturally, these things lead to unpredictability, fluctuation, and the inevitability of change which drives my work intuitively. I'm sensitive to details and intrigued by the contradictions they embrace. All this makes it permissible for me to be nurturing, ironic, and hypocritical, bringing me closer to obscuring our perceived boundaries between art and life. In this current body of work, I'm investigating Acousmatics - this is when we rupture the representational characteristics of sound and delve deeper into the sensations and personal meanings of sounds. I'm particularly interested in our relationships with common natural sounds, and how they are re-produced through unnatural technology. Using raw speakers and audio wire as sculptural objects, I intend to provide a space where we can appreciate natural and implied systems that make up our world, posing questions as to how far technology can actually benefit and enrich our daily lives. The spaces where these experiments exist are taken into consideration; they play a key part in the sculptural and conditional ...
