Artists Describing Their Art:

Tamara Albaitis - Ulrich Osterloh - Born in Germany in 1969, I am an artist with a BA hons degree in Fine Art from the University of London, Goldsmiths College. I lived in London for many years 1988-2005, and am nowadays based in the Cologne Dusseldorf region of Germany. Originally a painter, for the last four years I have been focusing mainly on photography and digital experimentation. Ulrich Osterloh ...

Kichung Lizee - After coming to this country from Korea in the mid 60's to study art, among the many forms of Western art that I was introduced to, Abstract Expressionism interested me most. Currently I am in the process of synthesizing Eastern and Western approaches to art. Specifically, I'm adopting the techniques and materials of Eastern calligraphy to Western thematic material, my primary goal being to close the gap between East and West and reach for universal creativity. Eastern calligraphy I learned is a living and breathing spirit, rather than the dead and rigid tradition of thousands of years. It is uniquely a form that conveys the pulsation of life energy. Through it, one can experience all aspects of the living spectrum. Eastern calligraphic form reveals the kind of life the artist has led, as well as foreshadowing the person one will become. It is the art form that manifests the self as a way of life or philosophy of life. It is a powerful art form that operates through direct intuition. As an artist I rely heavily on creative intuition. Moving with changes in the stream of consciousness, my creative intuition somehow brings out the subconscious and superconscious through ...

Storm Selby - I am self taught and have always needed to create. I am driven by this inner need. I painted my first painting (in secret) that summer ~ Red High Heel and Serpent. Then I started experimenting with assemblages, including "Life on the Rocks" series....because my life was on the rocks. These have been adopted by some of my friends and now reside in beautiful gardens. Hobo symbols are amongst my favorites....a secret language for wanderers. My art works are an honoring of the soul and life journey. It is healing for ancient wounds, and the calming of my fears and anxiety. My works are very personal ~ most have been promised to my children and grandchildren. ...

Frank Shifreen - My art is about the power of the image to bypass the limitations of the self, controlled through language and its paradigms. The image is a life raft. The connection of the seer to the seen is the same as self to other , or me to you. Images, whether they be paintings, digital works or videos are gestalts, and embody identity. My art is about figure and ground that is transformed in many ways- materials, subject and meaning. I am a situationist and believe that art can create new paradigms for the future. It is a protected frame of content that can carry meaning, experimental ideas and projections. I have been a painter and sculptor, and still work in those media, but my primary form is now digital art and video, or hybrid combination. Besides being an artist, I have curated and organized many exhibitions, in New York. The Monumental Shows, Terminal Show (Co-curator), Pan Arts, Plexus. Recently curated "From the Ashes" 911 Memorials and "Ground Zero" at the Detroit Museum of New Art, and Freyberger Gallery - Penn State Berks Campus I am a Doctoral Candidate in Art and Art Education at Columbia University Teachers College...

Nicholas Down - During the past few years I have had the privilege of visiting some of the most beautiful landscapes on earth including California's Sequoia National Forest, Yosemite and Joshua Tree National Parks, the red rocks of Sedona Arizona, the tough deserts of Canyonlands and Arches in Utah, Monument Valley in Navajo Nation, and of course the Grand Canyon. I was awestruck with the beauty and silences of these places and deeply inspired to create a number of new paintings and films which attempt to capture the essence of what I felt both as an artist and as a human being. I am increasingly aware of the threats to these landscapes, not just in the short term, but in the future, as the effects of climate change begin to alter rain patterns, glaciers and local ecologies in ways we are only just beginning to comprehend. My paintings are part of my extended homage to nature and are my abstract impressions of colour, mystery, and the spirit of place. My recent paintings have been hugely influenced by the winter here in New York State... frozen waterfalls, ice, snow drifts and landscapes blazing in winter hues. Technical Notes I continue to use the ...

Stephen Mead - In the early 1990's Stephen Mead's poems began appearing in such journals as Onionhead, Bellowing Ark, and Invert, but upon moving to Provincetown, Mass., Stephen decided to concentrate more on visual work. It was in the year 2000, after moving back to NY, that Stephen started seeking publication again for both his writing and his art combined. Since, then, thanks to the wonders of the World Wide Web, his work has appeared internationally both in cyberspace, hard copy, and physical Gallery Space. Often the writing has appeared along side his paintings, and at other times with the text superimposed. In 2004 Stephen began experimenting even more with these poetry/art hybrids creating a series of e books, including the award winning "We Are More Than Our Wounds". From there Stephen began experimenting with his art and poems as films, at first creating slideshows with captions, and then doing his own soundtracks and voice overdubs. These DVDs are available through Indieflix.com In 2006 Stephen put this technology to use releasing a CD of poems set to music "Safe & Other Love Poems" (CDBaby.com), as well as two print editions of his image/art hybrids, "Selected Works" and "Tree ...

She is independent and paints on and off and is not represented by any gallery, and she has not exhibited in a long time but is currently reviewing possible representation and exhibits for 2019....
