  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Shelly Leitheiser - Art comes from my head and my heart. I care deeply about the environment and often do artwork expressing my interest in environmental topics. I also use my art work to tell stories and uncover truths. Water and paint are sometimes used but often I will use photography and digital painting programs to get the images I envision. I am a formally trained artist in fine art, and have recently left the world of painting realism as my interest in photography grows. Why should art and photography look the same? Now I do more impressionist art and also abstracts, many of them inspired by other worlds. The realistic painting I do these days is very contemporary. Art is a lot of work but it's also very rewarding for me when someone inquires further into the meaning of my art....

Richard Montemurro - The artist is self taught and began his artistic journey with abstract oil painting. He later became interested in photography and has since integrated the use of the computer in his creative artistic endeavors. He uses his digital cameras and his digital paintings of abstracts in his creations, combining them, when appropriate, to create unusual works of art. His desire is to create images that are unique and interesting to look at. They are seldom created to make statements about the human condition or to express displeasure with society. The artist feels that there is room in life to create images for the sake of creating them as individual expressions of one's imagination....

Tom Lund-Lack - I am an experienced artist whose work uses the power of imagination to find find the essence of the subject.A It is grounded in the need to celebrate life, and to portray the subject through the transforming power of colour and light. Arrangements of shape, line, pattern and colour are brilliant at conjuringA up powerful expressions, sometimes these can be dreamlike and at peace sometimes exciting and dramatic. My work does not always represent an actual moment, place or object in time, but they areA the result of a process of reflection, recollection and reinvention, a distillation of experience. Art is a very small word having the widest possible meaning appreciation is a subjective judgement and no artist or workA can please everyone.A My aim is to please at least some of you and I am very confident that this aspiration is achievable ...

Ruth Zachary - My goal is to create striking images that touch the viewer emotionally. I try to capture the essence of a subject or scene, so that the viewer reacts with an immediate recognition, and immediate click of Yes. I depend upon composition, simplicity, shape and contrast, as well as my own aesthetic sense and emotional responses. I love creating art through photography. For me it is an opportunity for self-expression, a means of capturing a moment in time and creating beauty, as well as am important means of communication. My education includes a Masters in Social Work and a BA in English Literature. I have done formal study in drawing and pastel, but my photographic study has been informal and self-taught. Since 1980, I have been a frequent visitor to Monhegan Island, 12 miles off the coast of Maine, a remote lobstering island with a summer artists colony. On Monhegan, I became friends with a group of painters and photographers. I applied what I learned from them to my own work. Those I am most grateful to include Frances Kornbluth, Leo Brooks, Robin Young, Judi Wagner, Josie Vargas and Nancy Stanich. I show my art summers on Monhegan Island ...

James Gwynne - The sky and clouds afford the artist a tremendous number of shapes and colors. Movement can be captured in rhythmical patterns and forms. Together, these qualities can be inspirational and aesthetically stimulating when captured on canvas. The environmental paintings show the landscape affected by intrusions by man in the form of grafitti, trash, discarded objects, utility poles, etc. One can say that these are ugly reminders of landscape abuse, or that the beauty of nature dominates whatever intrudes. The figure paintings evolved from drawings done along with students during 30 years of teaching life drawing at the college level....

Paul Freeman - I am an artist working in ceramic and metal on a small scale of size. The works are lyrical and convey an interest in the benevolent character of human beings. The morality of the represented people conveys a feeling of pleasant engagement. I am inspired by people's everyday interactions, the good attitude that keeps society running. There is nothing that people of goodwill cannot resolve. I also paint and do computer art and have a degree in Master of Studio Art from Sydney College of the Arts (University of Sydney)....

Lorrie Williamson - As time passes and history is made, it is exciting to try and capture a special moment of life in a painting. It might be inspired by an earth-shaking event or just an ordinary daily experience. More often it comes as a result of looking for something meaningful to say about life as it is today by painting a picture of it. I have a passion for painting, and a ongoing desire to master the never-ending possibilities that are inherent in making art. I hope to express a mood or tell a story that will grab and hold your attention and make you want to see more....

Lorrie Williamson - Luise Andersen - Luise'Mignon' Andersen Luise'Mignon' Andersen has only recently begun to reveal her lifes work. Soon after her debut she exploded onto the mainstream art world. Her breathtaking pieces have captured international interest. The stories Luise'Mignon' is telling through her truly deep, layered works seem to decipher the past and foretell the future, perhaps sharing her window to other dimensions and a seventh sense. Her detailed acrylic'Mignon' series speaks to the beholder. They inspire raw emotion and ignite ones imagination. The indescribable nature of the "Duree De Ma Vie" in particular has a growing portion of the art community considering it the conception of an entirely new style. Ted Schaal - Lately I have been exploring the use of two enduring materials, bronze and stainless steel. I enjoy the juxtaposition of the primitive texture in the bronze with the mirror polished modern look of the stainless. Balance and symmetry dominate simple geometric forms. These sculptures are made to last through the ages with the highest level of craftsmanship and quality metals. Most of my latest work can be scaled up for public or corporate settings and commission inquiries are welcome. With over 20 years of sculpture experience anything is possible from desk top size to monumental fountains and sculpture. ...
